mom31257 Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 If you use this, why do the directions say to start with a small dose and gradually increase it? Also, do you take this anytime of day, or just before bed? I have reflux issues and am on medication for it. Do any of you have trouble with it bothering reflux? I have had anxiety, stress, and trouble sleeping, and my doctor suggested magnesium supplementation. Thanks!! Quote
freesia Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 You start with a small dose bc magnesium moves the bowels. If you start small and work up, you have less of a problem. I take it at night or when I wake up bc it makes me drowsy within 30 minutes. I rarely have reflux, so I can't speak to that. 2 1 Quote

If you start with a low dose, you can build up to where it is just right for you. It may not make you as drowsy. I am very sensitive to everything. I was taking it for muscle relaxation but I stopped. Now I just use topical spray form. Can you tell me more about the topical spay form? Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I drink Calm all day. I am on ridiculously high doses of magnesium. It doesn't affect my bowels any more. I add a Nuun electrolyte tab to my Calm to give me more electrolytes than just magnesium. 1 Quote
Carol in Cal. Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 I’ve tried taking Mg tablets twice, and both times was woken from a sound sleep some hours later with the worst intestinal cramps I have ever had, the kind where you can barely stand up. So I get my Mg from Epsom salts in my bath water a few times per week, which has never bothered me. 1 Quote
RootAnn Posted November 10, 2020 Posted November 10, 2020 We dose at dinner & it doesn't cause drowsiness in our person's case. The bowel issue hasn't reared its head, but I know it is a possibility. (Same person also takes a bunch of flax seed oil each day and if you start at a high number of those (6-8), it can also cause issues "down there." 1 Quote
