City Mouse Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 (edited) I know this is not exactly education related, but I need to share with people who will understand. My DD is 25, and she has really struggled to find her place in the world since finishing high school. Academically she had no problems with high school. Although social difficulties were frequent. She tried college, but that did not work out. She has tried many jobs that did not work out. However, she has just reached a milestone. She has been working at her current job as a clerk at a gas station convenience store for one full year, and as such she gets a week of paid vacation. And last night she spent her first night in her very own furnished apartment that is two blocks from where she works. She does drive, but her anxiety gets really bad during bad weather so having the option to walk to work is a good thing. I took out a really mean and vindictive part about a another girl that was a problem in high school, but the idea was that even with only the small success of my DD, I remind myself that things could alway be worse as a parent. PeterPan Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 That's so good!!! I love hearing your dd's success story! And being independent in an apartment and holding a job is a BIG DEAL!! I think we're all right there with you. IQ does not decide outcomes on these things. I'm glad she's on a path that is finally working for her. And yes, what astonishing irony that the people who were bad eggs end up worse than the people who wanted to do right but had disabilities. Life is pretty long to be making bad choices. Well good, sounds like a good way to be wrapping up the year, lots of good things! 5 Quote
