Garga Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 (edited) The other day I got a package in the mail. Inside was a shirt and some stick on bra things. But I never ordered the shirt or the bra things! The name on the package was my name and my address. The return address was for some online store. I stuffed the package in a drawer because I didn’t really know what to do about it and figured I’d worry about it later. And now today, another package arrived. This time it was from another online store and it was also sent to my name at my address and inside were some pants. Why am I getting packages sent to my name/address? What should I do about it? There isn’t a receipt inside the packages. Just the items wrapped in some plastic. I have the return addresses and tracking numbers on the outside of the packages. JanetC Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 A couple of ways these sorts of scams sometimes work: 1. The scammer expected to poach their merchandise from your porch before you got it 2. The scammer expects you to "return" the merchandise to them (by contacting you later about a "mistaken" order and giving you an address other than the seller's) Best thing to do is call the seller, if you can figure out who sent it. 1 Quote
ericathemom Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Could also be someone has stolen your credit card. My card was once compromised and I received their order. I figure that criminals are sometimes not too smart. Dealt with the bank on reversing charges and changed numbers. Check your credit/debit cards. Quote

Our thief ordered a software license that I think they expected to be an entirely electronic purchase, or else they were stalking the mailbox. Other stuff came up in addition to the license that came in the mail. Quote
cintinative Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Agree with the others. First, check your credit cards for fraudulent charges. Second, check with the vendor to see if they can verify the sale and the buyer (maybe it's a gift)? Third, could it possibly be the scam where they send you an item and post a review in your name (like with the seeds)? Quote
hellen Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 One time someone had stolen our credit card. They placed an online order for a gift card and something else. We received the something and they kept the gift card. I returned the item to the store. Buying that additional item kept the entire purchase from coming up as fraud. More recently Rainbow Resource sent me something I didn't order. They accidentally put my name on the order that came after mine. I was able to keep a fun puzzle. Quote
mom2scouts Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 (edited) I remember reading something about this. Companies send you stuff you didn't order so they have "verified buyers". It allows them to give their products good reviews and brings them higher on searches (for example, on Amazon). In this case, the seller is also the scammer. https://clark.com/shopping-retail/amazon-scam-brushing-warning-deliveries-you-didnt-order/ Edited November 2, 2020 by mom2scouts 1 Quote
