popmom Posted November 1, 2020 Posted November 1, 2020 Not as well as I would like. My grocery spending has gone up dramatically in the past year. I need to join the Frugalistas. I did better when all 4 kids were living at home. 1 Quote

Ethel Mertz Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 Pay day was towards the end of October. Next one isn't until Nov. 25th. It's Nov.1st and we've spent $300 on groceries. We also have a car repair bill coming due, urgently need to buy new tires, and lots of medical bills. Thankfully, we have a well-stocked pantry and I think we can get through until then with only replacing necessary items on an as needed basis. We usually spend $1,000 a month on groceries and have needed to cut back for a long time. Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted November 2, 2020 Posted November 2, 2020 It’s November 1, so the grocery budget is strong! I set a realistic budget, I hope, to cover Thanksgiving and other things going on this month. We are no longer shopping in stores, but are placing online orders, and I had to adjust the budget to reflect that. Wish me luck, though, my Walmart order this past week had 10/12 “out of stock” produce items. This isn’t going to last long if we can’t actually get food. I am hoping to squeak a bit extra out of this month’s budget for some Christmas items—so wish me luck! 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted November 3, 2020 Posted November 3, 2020 We ended up heading out to a store to get food and some other items. It felt like February all over again. Toilet paper and paper towels are gone, anything cleaning related was low or gone, and inventory for food items looked low. Hopefully this is just election related freak out and not a portent of winter to come. We went over to Costco. Same story, but they had dish soap, dishwasher tabs, and toilet bowl cleaner, which they hadn’t when Dh went to the store a couple of weeks ago. We picked those up along with milk, eggs, and some other necessaries. People just stood where the toilet paper and paper towels are supposed to be in complete disbelief. I am super sick of 2020. 1 Quote
mommyoffive Posted November 3, 2020 Author Posted November 3, 2020 (edited) Yeah, I heard about the bare shelfs again. I think it is election and covid. I think some states are having restrictions again. Glad we have a lot of stock on things. We are only doing pickup too. $200 pickup today. Stocking up on lots of stuff.
