Lanny Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 (edited) Hello: Please be sure that your DC have Smartphones and are subscribed to emergency alerts on Twitter, from the schools they attend. And, that you are subscribed to them. My DD is in her dorm room at UNC at Chapel Hill. There is an "Alert Carolina" at this time, Armed individual near the ambulatory care center (ACC). gardenmom5 Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Counties and states generally have these. Some types of alert (re: Amber alerts) are automatic through your phone provider when issued by the state. 1 Quote
Pen Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 (edited) Thanks for the PSA - I hope all will be well at Carolina. I don’t subscribe to twitter, but we are signed up for state and county alerts. Edited October 30, 2020 by Pen 2 Quote
Kassia Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 I heard all is clear on campus - I hope that is correct. We always subscribe(d) to text alerts for kids on campus. 3 Quote

There was another "Alert Carolina" message on Twitter with the "All Clear" It was near the ACC (Ambulatory Care Center) which is one of the buildings in the UNC Health System complex. https://www.uncmedicalcenter.org/uncmc/hospitals-locations/profile/unc-ambulatory-care-center-acc/ 4 Quote

TravelingChris Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 In general, be on Twitter to get Alerts of anything.. You do not have to do politics on it. 1 1 Quote
Bambam Posted October 30, 2020 Posted October 30, 2020 Both schools my kids have attended have an official texting alert for any emergencies. Which reminds me - I still need to get off the university's system they used for DC. I'm still getting those alerts. I assumed it would automatically unenroll anyone's contact info that wasn't enrolled in classes, but it's been a year and a half now, and I'm still getting them, so that assumption was wrong. 1 Quote
