fairfarmhand Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 “Children are not merely vessels into which facts are poured one week and then when it comes time for exams they turn themselves upside down and let the facts run out. Children bring all of themselves, their feelings, and their experiences to the learning.” I wish I'd known this when my oldest was in school. You can't separate the child's academics from the rest of their person. (And I have no idea why this is highlighted in gray.) 19 3 Quote
Guest Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 He was such a human treasure. I have watched the movie with Tom Hanks several times now and it still makes me bawl. I wish I had felt so well-understood by adults when I was a kid as some of his young guests must have. 4 Quote
Ditto Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 I love Mr. Rogers. The world sure could use him now. I am always happy to see any quotes from him. @Quill....I have never been able to bring myself to watch that movie. As much as I love Tom Hanks, there is simply only one Mr Rogers, and I can't stand the thought of watching someone portray him (picture me foot stomping and crying...if it can't be the real Mr Rogers then forget it). I believe his widow was involved with the movie and endorsed it so you would think that would change my mind, but I simply can't watch it. 5 Quote
Harriet Vane Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 I just adore Mr. Rogers. I grew up loving his show, of course, and then I rediscovered him twice as an adult. First, I was so delighted at how healthy his show is for my kids when they were growing up. And then, when we had a traumatized foster daughter, Mr. Rogers was the most perfect play therapy ever. We watched two episodes a day. I was absolutely inspired by his approach, and I wish he were still alive. 3 1 Quote
fairfarmhand Posted October 27, 2020 Author Posted October 27, 2020 Feel free to share your Mr. Rogers gems as well. Here's another one: "If you could only sense how important you are to the lives of those you meet; how important you can be to the people you may never even dream of. There is something of yourself that you leave at every meeting with another person." 4 1 Quote

I didn't see the movie, but I read his book and was so impressed, I didn't know much about him before reading, but I gained a lot of respect for him from that book. Pam in CT Posted October 27, 2020 Posted October 27, 2020 The movie is great. Not at all what I expected. And I expected it to be great because Mr Rogers was so great. It was great in a way I didn't expect. 4 Quote
BakersDozen Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I watched "Won't You Be My Neighbor?" with my kids and we all cried. Such a beautiful human being. 3 Quote
Ditto Posted October 28, 2020 Posted October 28, 2020 I think we should all get under blanket forts with vanilla wafers and juice and watch Mr Rogers for the afternoon. 2 Quote
