AngelaGT Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I am considering hiring someone to deep clean my home. I'm not entirely sure what that entails and what is appropriate to ask someone to do-even if Im paying them. Here is my list, please feel free to add or tell me if it is not appropriate. Thanks! Clean all appliances-inside and outside Clean all cabinets-inside and outside Clean baseboards, floors-scrub, not just mop, walls Dust and clean behind everything and above everything including ceiling fans, furniture-under furniture, hard to reach book shelves, and interior trim too high for me to reach. Clean doors, windows, and porches Clean bathrooms more thoroughly than I already do. Anything else? Too much? Also, having never done this before, what is the general fee per hour for this type of service? Quote
regentrude Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) I would not hire anybody to clean all my cabinets inside because that would mean they have to take out everything from every cabinet, put it somewhere, and then put it back. That seems to me a recipe for chaos and stuff will inevitably end up how I do not usually keep it. Same for appliances. I would not have a stranger empty and refill my refrigerator so they can clean its inside Edited October 9, 2020 by regentrude 4 1 Quote
KungFuPanda Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Cleaning companies have an exact list of what they do. Maybe you can get some ideas from the pros. I think deep cleaning means a bucket and vacuum got involved. I wouldn’t expect windows to me done unless I paid for it as a whole separate job. Unless you hire a regular, weekly, independent housekeeper, I’d give up on getting anyone to clean inside your cabinets unless you pack them up first and pay for a move-out cleaning. You’ll also have trouble finding anyone who will actually scrub your floors on their hands and knees. It would be more work to find that unicorn than it would be to just do it yourself with two buckets. If you make it an entire job unto itself you might be able to hire a teenager to do it. Spryte Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Our housekeepers are similar to Dreamergal’s. They came every two weeks pre-pandemic. I am pretty sure they would do anything I asked, if I asked in advance and negotiated ahead. Previous cleaners would do inside the fridge if I took everything out ahead of time, and paid extra, but I never asked our current cleaners. They do inside the microwave, and the outside of appliances. They will run laundry, when they change sheets. Oh, and the current cleaners straighten and clean our closets, but I was shocked the first time - that is usually not the norm around here. Walls are something I do myself, or have kids do. The first cleaning they do a deep clean, with more details (washing light fixture gloves, etc), then they just rotate through those things as needed. Edited October 9, 2020 by Spryte 1 Quote

That's a great list! It's a lot like the way Flylady says to divide and conquer your house. For op, maybe you could use a step stool or two or three? I have a 3 step and a 4 step, and now I want to get a 6' ladder to reach things. Even with a long handled swiffer sometimes I end up jumping a lot, lol. 1 Quote
