Amethyst Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Does anyone have any experience with the iPhone SE? We are an iPhone family, have only used iPhones, but they are expensive. I’ve heard the iPhone SE is supposed to be a good cheaper alternative. Does anyone have experience using an iPhone SE? Would someone who has used an iPhone 7 be frustrated for any reason? Thanks Quote
CTVKath Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I've got an SE 2020 but don't have any experience with the 7. I upgraded from a 5s. I have so far loved the SE 2020 for the 2 months I've had it. The only glitch I've had is that it doesn't pair well with my Plantronics Voyager 5220 headset. It will drop connection and can be slightly exasperating to regain connection. My husband has the same SE 2020 and same headset and rarely has issues with it so it may just be something with my headset. I hope that helps and I hope you hear from someone who upgraded from a 7. Carrie12345 Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Not myself, but my dds both had the original SEs for years. There were zero complaints, but the fact that they didn’t have to pay for them could certainly have been a factor in that, lol. But they did serve all their needs well. Quote
Scarlett Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) I currently have the SE upgraded from I think the 7. It has been fine. It has a ton a space—- 128. It is small which I like because I have small hands.... but I am looking forward to getting a bigger one because my eyes are getting worse. I do have a problem with it connecting to the Prius.....I don’t drive the Prius most times so I haven’t taken the time to figure exit what that deal is. Edited October 9, 2020 by Scarlett Quote

Amethyst Posted October 9, 2020 Author Posted October 9, 2020 How about battery life? I’m reading elsewhere that is one of the biggest weaknesses. Does the battery last a full day without recharging? Quote
CTVKath Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I've never had an issue with running out of battery by the end of day but I'll be honest - I use my SE 2020 mostly as a phone and periodically for weather, traffic, texting and email when I'm away from the house. I don't use apps much. Quote
Arctic Bunny Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 (edited) Looking back in my battery history, I would estimate that 100% of the battery lasts around 5 hours of having the screen on without charging(watching a movie, for example, because clearly it wouldn’t be here or Facebook). ETA: I haven’t charged my phone in the past 13 hours. I have used 2.5 hours of screen on time and 3.5 hours of screen off time, and I have 41% battery remaining. I talk to the trees Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I love my old SE! My hands are on the small side, and I like having a phone that actually fits in my palm without feeling like it’s going to slip and fall. Mine is almost 3 years old, and I have never had any problems at all with battery issues. (Of course, now that I have said that...) I do have to say that I use it as a phone and for texting. I don’t watch videos, play games, or have a bunch of different apps running all the time. My parents have the 7, and after using it a couple of times, I will say that it is easier to text on a larger keyboard, but that’s about my only complaint. Quote
CTVKath Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Ok I asked my husband because he uses his SE 2020 for work and he's on it most of the day. He says he keeps it plugged in when he's in his office but it's not plugged in when he's out of the office which is often. He says he hasn't had any issues with the battery running out. Quote

This is what I’m afraid of. This would be a replacement phone for my son. We’re thinking of giving it to him as a gift, but he won’t always be able to have it plugged in since the nature if his work is not a desk job. It needs to be reliable for the sometimes long days (or nights). I know he does have plenty of apps and occasionally watches videos (or other things that might drain the battery quickly). Hmm. Quote

Starr Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 My young adults are happy with the SE. Their phones are well used every day without power complaints. Everyone needs a good charger for backup. They don't cost much. Quote
Danae Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 Wait . . . is there a new SE that’s the same size as the older ones? I still have my old SE because I don’t want a bigger phone. 1 Quote
sarahbobeara Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 14DD got one in August, she loves it. This was actually her first new-to-her phone. She wanted (needed!) something smaller that fit in her pocket. She has pretty big hands, frankly, but has no problems using this phone. Takes awesome photos, charges really quickly. A backup battery is a good idea for young adults. Seems like the adults/kids that struggle are always on 1% battery life when they're waiting for a tow truck (purely an example! but it's good to be prepared!). Quote

Guest Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 I have the original SE, and love it. I am planning to upgrade to the 2020 later this year. I use my iPad when I need a bigger screen. Quote

Yep, shouldn't be a problem. It won't take long to charge it back up, and it isn't going to die early in the day even if it doesn't make it an entire day. Quote
katilac Posted October 9, 2020 Posted October 9, 2020 My dd had the old SE and now has the new one. She's a college student, and her phone sees heavy use, lol. Very heavy. The battery still makes it through a 'work day' and she usually plugs it in early-ish evening so it can make it through the night shift. Quote

I just saw that Apple is going to make a bunch of announcements in the coming days. You might want to check them out. Ugh. Oh well. We went and bought the 11 for him. City Mouse Posted October 11, 2020 Posted October 11, 2020 I have an SE. I like it because of the size. I don’t want a phone with a larger screen. The only problem I have is that my phone does not ha e enough memory. It only has 16K. I have been avoiding upgrading because I don’t like the larger phones. When the second generation SE was announced, I started thinking of upgrading, but I have seen the rumors that the new 12 (possible called 12 mini) will be slightly larger than my current SE but smaller than the 2nd generation SE. If that is true, then I will get one of those. All of the new phones come with way more memory than I need. My iPad has 64k of memory, and I am only using 32 right now. I do keep photos on the cloud, but I rarely download video. Quote
