Since the recent forum update, I have noticed that several people now have new usernames, and I am pretty much the world’s most dense person when it comes to figuring out who people used to be. (I know the one person who had to change her name for privacy reasons, and I have guessed a few others, but I am still generally clueless.)

If you didn’t change your name for privacy reasons, could you post here and let me know who you used to be?

Many of the people changed names for privacy reasons.  Might be better to request a PM.

I have my same username, but a zeroed out post count and new registration date. I had my account deleted during the emails showing as usernames bug. I assume that’s why a lot of other people changed as well.

Why would several people all have to change their usernames for privacy reasons at the same time? I only know of one person who had to do that, and I absolutely understood the reasoning behind her decision.

Because a glitch showed some people's actual email addresses along with identifiable posts.

It was a short time and only happened to some people.  So most of us weren't affected.

I haven't changed my name but I recently changed my avatar to a recent picture of our sweet granddaughter Emma.

Sometimes avatar changes throw me off because I recognize people by their avatars as well as their names. If they changed both I'm in trouble lol

I had just finished freezing my credit cards, changing all my passwords, and deleting over 5,000 phishing-type emails because of a (unconnected) breach elsewhere. I came here and my email was showing as my username.  
 

The help desk told me what to do to re-set it, but it didn’t work.  The choices were to leave it that way until their vendor figured out what the bug was or delete my account and start over.  😞. I don’t think I had any posts that were archivably wonderful, but it’s weird to see my post count so low.

I think mine is pretty obvious especially since I didn't change my avatar.  I was Where's Toto?   I'd like to get that back again but I don't seem to be able to change it.

I had been amy g. since way back when we used to compete to be first when the board flipped. 
 

I got locked out of that account a couple of years ago in a board upgrade and am only just now getting around to making a new account.

If someone changes their avatar they are simply a brand new person forever.

When we change to the most recent version of this board, our e-mails with the commercial side of Peace Hill Press became attached to the WTM board. A bunch of us, me included, changed our emails on the back end with the help of OtherJohn to disconnect our true identity from our board identity.  My account is attached to a junk email with a made up address in Australia (shhhhh, don't tell anyone.)

I am an old member who deleted my account and am starting over to ensure maximum privacy/security.   Unfortunately due to the recent changes/upgrades my account isn't working as it should, but the wonderful @Helpdesk people are trying hard to fix it.  Hopefully it will be working perfectly soon.
