serendipitous journey Posted October 5, 2020 Posted October 5, 2020 (edited) Morning! A waterfall trip sounds marvelous: hope preparations + execution all go swimmingly 🙂 Today's school: break-week work of languages + piano for classes; fine arts stuff; reading -- not sure what I'll have boys read yet; and memory work. Elder has a room-cleaning focus 🙂 Prep for RPG -- set aside time to work with younger on the game, which he's running. Specifically: work on motivations, limits for antagonist characters; consider adaptations for bigger group. practice combat story mechanics: 1. describe scene briefly; 2. resolve the player's character actions; 3. describe the actions in-story; 4. remind next character what they are seeing/hearing and repeat. if he's unstressed, also talk about ways to maintain immersion Fitness all around. Cleaning (FlyLady routine stuff + work in rooms, school space, hit some windows); garden (water, clean up); school prep work. Cooking: rastle up breakfast for MIL, we're out of her staple. Dinner tonight is Vietnamese takeout; I also need to either grill or roast a ton of chicken + get broth going from bones + figure out what to do with all that meat -- probably shred & freeze. I need to deploy some PTSD/depression management strategies today. Sadness, gloom, whining. Ok, now I'm done complaining 🙂 Strategies to deploy (more laziness, whining, okay now REALLY done whining): Food: lots of veggies at lunch + dinner; plenty of protein (including eggs at lunch) Exercise: yoga, strength, aerobics + outside time Life: set timer for shortish stretches and focus on accomplishing the important goals Pray, show a lot of love to my family, try to let a deeper joy shine through. I can project energy and joy and I really, really need to do this. Edited October 5, 2020 by serendipitous journey 1 Quote
Critterfixer Posted October 5, 2020 Author Posted October 5, 2020 @serendipitous journeyHave you had some clearing in the smoke where you can get out? It's been so bad over there. 1 Quote
Critterfixer Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 Evening! The waterfall trip was awesome, although there was no waterfall. Not enough rain lately. Still, there was water in the river, and we went for a nice hike, and even heard an elk bugle. So an amazing day out. 1 Quote

It's been so bad over there. Evening! and thank you: it is kind of you to ask. We've had some clearer days and parts of days, which has been such a blessing, and we are not in any real danger from the fires themselves, which is an even greater one. That said, it's been too smoky for me to get out running/walking. I tried going with a mask on but it was worse than not running, in terms of stress management -- I kept having bad dreams. So we're getting outside air when we can & taking some aspirin/vitamin C to try and keep health effects down. Today we did languages; I cleaned a lot, and the other family in our "bubble" visited & the children played. They are moving much farther away at the end of the month and both of our families have had similar levels of pandemic precautions, so we're bubbling up while they are around and we can enjoy them. Now: dinner; some cleaning, prep work for tomorrow; stories for boys; some exercise for me. Edited October 7, 2020 by serendipitous journey 1 Quote
Critterfixer Posted October 7, 2020 Author Posted October 7, 2020 Morning. Ugh. Nothing like a hike to remind you of the muscles you didn't know you had. But I'm up, I walked my laps, and hopefully that will help with the soreness. Today's schedule: House: laundry, dishes, cat boxes, kitchen Cooking: grilling hamburgers tonight School: usual Writing: 2000 words, keep up with Beta reading, personal reading, send writers' meeting stuff, scheduling November's writing Art: continue sketches, doing a quilt drawing and/or painting today. Exercise: slug the 1.66 miles--done. Ouch. 1 Quote
serendipitous journey Posted October 8, 2020 Posted October 8, 2020 @Critterfixer: so glad the hike was wonderful; so sorry you're sore! Hoping that your next day is better. And: 'evening! late here: on the list is yoga + bed. Today saw essential break-week school done, some chores, some reading with boys, some exercise for everybody, take-out "date night" with DH at the kitchen table watching the debate. Quote
serendipitous journey Posted October 10, 2020 Posted October 10, 2020 Morning! Happy Saturday. My anti- depression/PTSD regimen is kicking in: happiness and gratitude. Today: clean house; work in garden; plan school; exercise; look over my RPG game notes in preparation for running it again. Plan tomorrow's work (incl. music, art, and Bible and RGG work for everybody). Experiment with finding time for my RPG writing. What we really need here is more joy. So that'll be my focus for this week and for October ... joy all around, a comfortable & restorative home, great education, helping DH be renewed. How hard can that be? 🤣 Quote
