lulalu
DS, 8yo and in 3rd grade, has loved learning Greek Myths. I want to find ways to encourage him in his love. I think he will like the National Mythology Exam. Does the exam cover all myths? Or does it focus on Greek myths? We have the D'Aulaire's book and audiobook. Will this be enough to study with? He also has watched Mythic Warriors. Any resources that have been helpful to study with? What is the format of the exam? (short answer, fill in the blank, multiple choice)
Guest
Multiple choice. The sources are very specific, and make sure you use the correct version, because it can make a difference. In many respects, I think of the NME as "baby's first AP exam", because it is the same sort of very set syllabus test. Look at the grade levels required to take each subtest for an idea of difficulty. The core is pretty easy to medal on, but some of the subtests are extremely detailed and picky. In general, my suggestion is to have your child take as many tests as they want on paper, but only put the ones required for the grade level on the card to send in, because it is entirely possible for a 3rd grader to get a perfect score on everything required for third grade, but lose out on a medal because they missed questions on a subtest designed for middle school.
wathe
The questions for the 3rd grade level of the exam are taken directly from D'Aulaires. The syllabus will specify exactly which pages are covered.
