Kidlit
Do you use some sort of rack? I’m really looking for something that can easily be put away when not in use. This has been a quandary for me for a long time because apparently clothes that need to be dried this way are my favorite. 🤣. I often have several pieces to dry at a time, so something that has several layers/levels would be ideal. Whatcha got? Links and/or pictures appreciated! lmrich
I just bought my daughter a folding drying rack that attaches to the back of the door. It was purchased at TJ Maxx, but I am sure you can find one... the cashier checking me out said she was going to buy one on her break. I have a drying rack set up in my laundry room. At my older house, I set one in the hallway.
Ali in OR
We have a counter in our laundry room. The corner of it is filled to the ceiling with shoe boxes and other useful empty boxes, but the rest can be used for drying things flat or for storing a load of laundry that has come out of the dryer.
MEmama
A drying rack. We dry all our clothes on it.
itsheresomewhere
I tend to walk on the wild side and rarely dry things flat that say dry flat. They just get put in hangers and hung up to dry. They look fine dried that way. Edited September 16, 2020 by itsheresomewhere 4
sarahbobeara
I rarely dry ours truly flat and if something has to drip dry flat, that's not going to happen either. I have a giant drying rack from IKEA, that thing holds a lot of stuff. Easily folds flat but I leave ours open b/c my teens put their own laundry on it as well. IKEA does have some other flat drying racks as well, but I haven't tried those. I bought 2 of the ones I linked, one for laundry and one for swimsuits/towels on the patio after a trip to the neighborhood pool.

LAS in LA
I have a rack similar to the IKEA one linked above. Ours came from an Asian grocery store 15+ years ago. It is very compact and useful.
Kassia
I also use my drying rack.
Carol in Cal.
Unless they are pretty heavy I just hang them up, separated from each other, on wide hangers in doorways. If heavy I usually roll up in a towel right out of the washer to absorb a lot of the water, and then put them on another bath towel, folded in half, on the floor of the shower room. That assumes that showers are mostly done before the laundry. I don’t have room for a drying rack. One trick I heard was to use one of those plastic expandable baby gates and straddle the bath tub with it, and then dry on that, maybe with a towel under the garment and maybe not. I have had mixed success with that. It only holds one thing at a time, and by nature mostly there are a bunch that come out of the washer at once.
J-rap
I've always just placed them on a towel on top of my washer or dryer. In the summer, I place them on a towel on the table on our back porch.
MercyA
I use a mesh hanging drying rack, something like this, only mine is round and only has two tiers. I love that it is light and I can just stick it behind the laundry baskets in my closet or laundry room when I am not using it.
Arcadia
I just lazily hang them on hangers on the bath shower rod to dry. My bathroom is rather arid so they tend to dry quite well there.
Junie
I lay them out on the ledge of our garden tub.
Emba
I dry sweaters on a towel on the floor, because they will stretch out of shape on a hanger. Woven items I will put on a hanger.
ksr5377
I'm still using the same drying rack my mom bought me when I went off to college. Oh, and DH's drying rack, which HIS mom purchased for him when he went off to college. They fold up and I store them under my couch.
TravelingChris
I used to have a folding rack but my dh didn't like it cause t was in the family room it may have disappeared into the garage or he may have thrown it away or,???? Anyway. I now use the big dining table in my second kitchen.
KrissiK
I put towels on my bedroom floor and lay clothes out that way.

Forget-Me-Not
I have a large drying rack that I bought at Costco. It folds flat when I’m not using it.
SKL
I own very few clothes that require that. When I wash those, usually it is sufficient to clean off my washer & dryer and lay the clothes on there.
Kidlit
Thanks, everyone! I was fishing for ideas in hopes that some brilliant new device had been invented that would miraculously give me extra flat space to dry several large items WITHOUT being an eyesore or requiring me to do a lot of put-up-and-take-down. It looks like I have yet another something to put on the IKEA list.

Katy
Unless it's really delicate (silk jersey, angora, cashmere) I ignore the instructions and hang to dry. For delicate things I wash them in the evenings and lay out on furniture in the rarely used family room overnight, and pick it up in the morning before the kids are awake. Ana White has a pretty cool laundry room with built in hidden drying racks for things that need to lay flat. I always imagined building a room like that if I ever built a house.

skimomma
I live dangerously and hang them on the line. Nothing has been harmed yet. If I were to lay them flat somewhere, a cat would nap on it and I would have to start all over again!
