PeterPan Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I wondered why I was feeling much sluggish, not quite my usual vavoom self, and turns out the Nature-throid had issues with potency and has been recalled!!! So the pharmacist is saying my alternatives are NP Thyroid and Armour. I used to take Armour years ago. I liked the Nature-throid for the no junk fillers. Anyone have a preference between these options? I'm definitely getting the new med filled PRONTO. Quote
eagleynne Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I take NP Thyroid and I've never had issues with it. My endocrinology office doesn't like to use Armour because the current formulation uses fillers that make it hard for some people to absorb. 1 Quote
Soror Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 Well, that sucks. Naturethroid has worked the best for me. I'll go get new, I don't want to switch they gave me WP once when there was a Naturethroid shortage and it was a huge difference for me. I've had some trouble with sleep but my schedule was messed in July so I attributed it to that. There have been a few other things that I thought was due to this and that but I'll be interested to see how I feel when I get it changed back. I just did labs last week, we'll see what they show. 1 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 What I was told on the Nature Throid was that the potency was stronger than usual. I just kept taking it and was fine. 1 Quote

What I got was a letter from my medical insurance company. Perhaps it was a different alert? Quote

Yes, I thought I was reacting to the fillers before when I was on armour. Naturethroid had been completely fine. Guess I'll have to hope NP Thyroid is good for me. 4 hours ago, Jean in Newcastle said: What I was told on the Nature Throid was that the potency was stronger than usual. That's what the Walgreens paper said and what that recall statement says. 5 hours ago, soror said: WP once when there was a Naturethroid shortage and it was a huge difference for me. The pharmacist suggested if I was having a big reaction to a minor change that maybe I needed to run my labs again. I stopped taking kelp/iodine sources a year ago (except for the RDA) to shift completely over to thyroid meds. I had assumed we had it stabilized, so I'm not sure what part of my symptoms are maybe more fallout from that (needing a higher overall dose) vs. what is the sub potent meds. I guess I could run the labs to baseline before I begin the new med (same dose). I can't fathom my doc being willing to *increase* my dose with a new med. Seems like he'd slide me to the new med, same dose, and run the labs in 6 weeks and adjust at that time. Besides, it takes a long time for your TSH to go up when your dose is too low. Months. Wow, it just seems like West Throid and Nature Throid shouldn't have been so different. I don't know. I guess I'll just eat a lot of salad and hope for the best. Quote

It’s hard to tell but it seemed more comparable to Nature Throid. I have had it compounded before at a compound pharmacy when there was a problem. But I am pretty sure that it was more expensive that way. (It was a long time ago so I don’t remember clearly. ). 1 Quote

Nice, I'll call my pharmacy today and see what they say and what they have. I know I don't want WP since it didn't work well for me before. I've heard not so great things about Armour when they reformulated a few years back. I got a call from my dr's office while I was out about the shortage, they prescribe it in house, not sure what they are planning to do. 1 Quote
Soror Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 I had the pharmacy order me NP Thyroid, should be here tomorrow. They had Armour and WP in stock but since I know WP doesn't work well for me and know too many adversely affected when Armour changed formulations I picked the NP, fingers crossed it works well for me. melmichigan Posted September 16, 2020 Posted September 16, 2020 (edited) Nature-thyroid is the new recall for sub potency. NP thyroid was recalled in May for super potency of T3. Edited September 16, 2020 by melmichigan 2 Quote

PeterPan Posted September 17, 2020 Author Posted September 17, 2020 Ok, I'm excited!! I started the new NP Thyroid last night, and it's NOTICEABLY better. I'm back to feeling the way I should feel. My heartbeat is stronger (not faster, stronger), my oxygen is up, mood brighter, and my VAVOOM is back. So much better, oh my. My I'm going to go clean and I can sprint is back. This is how I SHOULD feel. And just think, this is only the first day! So I should feel even better over the next few weeks as it absorbs fully into my system. Wow. So I think they're under defining to us what was up with the nature throid, because this is a definite shift. I assumed the assaying at 87% meant the nature throid was evenly low. It could have been something imbalanced, like sucky low on the T3. I don't know. Whatever it was, it's just noticeably different. Quote
