I would like to have a simple one, and need it to be on the cheaper side, but don't want to buy something that will only last a year. Not asking a lot am I? Quote
saraha Posted September 13, 2020 Author Posted September 13, 2020 I am also open to suggestions if anyone has one they love that is maybe $75 and under? Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 I don’t know if they’re available in the US but we have the fowlers vacola one and its a workhorse. They are more expensive but you can often pick them up second hand for less. 1 Quote
Bambam Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 We have an older model of this Nesco. https://www.amazon.com/NESCO-FD-75A-Snackmaster-Food-Dehydrator/dp/B0090WOCN0 We've had this one for 4-5 years? We use it a lot certain times of the year and less other times of the year. I usually do a bunch of strawberries, bananas, apples, and grapes - and sometimes a few peaches. I make fruit leather when we have a bunch in the summer and some of it is starting to get a little ripe for our tastes. I just mix whatever we have together and make fruit leather. I have five trays and four fruit leather inserts. It's been excellent. Before this we had a cheaper model where we had to switch the trays around to help even out drying time. We don't have to do that with this one. 2 Quote
gstharr Posted September 14, 2020 Posted September 14, 2020 I owned several different models of those round stackable trays type dehydrators. None of them produced good results. Then heard about the Excalibur 3400B, with 9 trays. It is one of the best home units, but it is expensive at $300. Decided to go with Magic Mill, a similar design to Excalibur but $100 cheaper. I am very happy with the Magic Mill. Funny, I was browsing Craiglist after I bought the Magic Mill, and saw many Excaliburs for under $100. The main advantages of the Excalibur/Magic Mill models are that they have fans for even heat circulation, temperature controls, and timers. 1 Quote
