Pen Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Does anyone know how of any site that has predictions for when in day AQ is likely to be better or worse? (Assuming no new fire.) I am trying to figure out when to walk dog with less bad smoke exposure. It has been officially “hazardous “ for last few days, but it seems like some moments are less extremely hazardous than others. Also does anyone have suggestions for getting a dog to go poop in his own yard? He doesn’t like to and usually it’s great for not having to watch ones feet, but right now it would help if he would run outside, quickly relieve himself in yard, and return to house. He knows, “do your duty” — but if I tell him inside his yard he sits down, looks at me reproachfully and makes Chewbacca noises. Quote
Liz CA Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Just an observation from my neck of the woods with current particulate matter of 252. We get more of a breeze in the morning and it feels it is more oxygen rich. So in the morning, we throw the door open for a few minutes when it does not smell so smoky. https://www.airnow.gov/ 1 Quote
ktgrok Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 it's likely not that he doesn't want to poop in his yard as much as he needs a bit of physical activity to get things moving. Maybe you can get him some exercise in the house first? 2 Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 (edited) https://www.koin.com/news/wildfires/map-wildfires-air-quality-conditions-oregon/ I’m not sure exactly where AQ is - maybe this is helpful? Sorry my US geography knowledge is fairly lacking! Edited to add I just realised you meant Air quality ... duh! otherwise can you use a wind direction forecast to get an idea? This obviously will only work if the fires are in one direction from you not if they’re all around. Edited September 12, 2020 by Ausmumof3 Quote

I am in Oregon in the dark purple “hazardous area” on map more or less between Salem and Medford. Don’t quote that asI will probably delete that relatively specific place info later . Forecasts just tell me that it is expected to stay hazardous till Monday. I think @Liz CA may be right that it is less awful in morning. I am going to try @Ktgrok idea of inside exercise now. 1 Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 @Pen not quoting but hope your air quality improves soon! 1 Quote
Frances Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 Our dog will usually go out and just do her business on the rare occasions when we can’t walk or run her for some reason, but she doesn’t like it. Today when I opened the door for her to go at noon, she just looked at me like “You’ve got to be kidding, not this again” and refused. I haven’t been outside for more than a few minutes in almost a week and am really looking forward to better air quality soon. 1 Quote
Spy Car Posted September 12, 2020 Posted September 12, 2020 My poor pooch had some clear breathing issues yesterday (like his master). The air quality from fires is positively ungodly here in LA. I'm sure people in other areas are suffering much worse. Trying to keep indoors. Bill Quote
