J-rap Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 I love candles and always keep one lit on our dining room table in the evenings. I don't want to go to stores right now so I can't smell them! This is what I'm looking for: Something that seems fall-ish, but not sweet smelling (prefer more of a fresh/outdoors smell), not artificial smelling, no vanilla. So, no baked-apple pie smell, although apple trees plus a cool breeze and sunshine might be okay! I just want someone to tell me what to get and where I can order it online. 😄 Quote
Jaybee Posted September 2, 2020 Posted September 2, 2020 Personally, I like Wal-mart's Mainstays Cranberry Mandarin. It's not outdoorsy, but it's pleasant. 1 Quote

I don't go by seasons, just my favorite fragrances year round. Some are Cucumber Melon Eucalyptus Mint Wild Eucalyptus and Sage Bergamont I also love fragrances from our local candle store made of soy Coconut vetiver (a herb) Coconut Orange That Eucalyptus Mint and Bergamont sound really interesting... In fact I went down a rabbit hole and started looking at Bergamont perfume now! Quote
Katy Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Glade has a new limited edition one called Fall Night Long I snagged through grocery pickup after someone on Instagram recommended it. I liked the scent unlit, but when I lit it up I loved it. Especially when combined with the scent of mostly orange oil and a little bit of a goodnight blend (lavender, bergamot, I can't remember what else) in the oil diffuser in the next room. The combo was REALLY nice. 1 Quote

Liz CA Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 (edited) I use a diffuser thingy where you put a small candle on the bottom part and some beeswax in the top with any kind of scent you like, essential oils for instance. I like lavender, orange or rosehip - your choice of scent. For the small candle I go to St. John's Monastery's website and buy their besswax candles. https://monasteryofstjohn.org/candles/ The Thingy This is similar in style to the one I have. Bottom portion holds the small candle. The shallow bowl on top can hold water or beeswax with scent. Edited September 3, 2020 by Liz CA 1 Quote
Forget-Me-Not Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 BBW has one called Leaves which is nice. 1 Quote

I’ve only tried this scent. I burn one of these when we have the artificial Christmas tree up. Most of my scents are contrary to what the OP wants. My favorite early fall candles are apple. Either a warm cinnamon or a crisp green apple scent. Cranberry is my go to for a cozy late fall/winter scent. A warm vanilla is good if I am cooking. It mixes well with most natural cooking odors. I have a few warm, mixed scents that smell a bit like incense. They are from a high quality candle maker, so the scents are rich and fresh. (ie not patchouli) The names don't explain the scent....more of the color. 1 Quote
easypeasy Posted September 3, 2020 Posted September 3, 2020 Ah, I was hoping to find & suggest some new scents - but I also prefer everything on your "no" list! lol I'm a vanilla, pumpkin (w/o cinnamon), sugar cookie, buttercream icing kinda candle girl! 😄 My issue has been that the candles aren't scented like they used to be. 😞 When my kids were pre-teens, people would come over, walk in the front door, and immediately ask me what I was baking. Now? No one even seems to notice. 😕 I barely notice unless I have two candles of the same scent going in the main living area. 2 Quote

I suppose you can have more variety of scents that way... Also, the St. John's site has beautiful sculpted candles too! 1 Quote

KungFuPanda Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 (edited) Trader Joe’s had a Honeycrisp Apple that I loved. I don’t like the dessert-smelling candles, but I tend to like berries, apples, and citrus. My daughter’s favorite is this Edgar Allan Poe candle. There are others in this collection. https://paddywax.com/collections/library/products/library-candle-edgar-allen-poe Edited September 4, 2020 by KungFuPanda To give the direct link instead of Amazon. 1 Quote
gstharr Posted September 4, 2020 Posted September 4, 2020 Gwyneth Paltrow has a healthy lifestyle brand. I heard a discussion of her candles on the radio yesterday. I had to look the candles up. That is all I'll say. Don't want to spoil the surprise. https://goop.com/staff/gwyneth-paltrow 2 Quote
