We've used Instacart for quite some time.  This morning I ordered from two separate stores and my delivery options were afternoon time slots or first available.  I chose first available, so there was no specific delivery time.  The first store was shopped for and delivered quite quickly.  The second store was shopped much later.  No big deal, as there was no scheduled delivery time.  Everything was shopped for 2-3 hours ago.  It still has not been delivered.  At one point I messaged the shopper to ask if there had been any problems with my order and if the order was expected to be delivered soon. She responded with, "Not that I know of. I have to travel to the store then bring it to you. I am also delivering to another customer."

Now my questions.  Why would she need to travel to the store?  Wouldn't she have already shopped for them herself?  I don't have a problem with her shopping for multiple customers at the same time, but why would there be hours delay in between the shopping and delivery times?

Some, or maybe all, stores have separate shoppers and delivery drivers.  So the person who shopped your order is not the same person who will drive it to you.

I didn't realize this.  Thank you for the explanation.

What Jessica said.I have been using IC for a few years now for work and that is how it is in some areas.i have at times randomly gotten extra stuff turns out they shop 2 or 3 orders at the same time and sometimes we end up with the random french bread or asparagus 😎  its pretty funny. The 1st time this happened we contacted IC and that was the explanation, they told us to keep the random stuff.

All the times I've used IC my shopper and delivery driver has been the same person. I would find it odd to have my order shoppes but not delivered for 2 hours.

Same here.

We got an annual Instacart subscription last year after my head injury- so over 70+ deliveries (Costco, Sams, Kroger, Sprouts etc).  It was always shopped and delivered by the same person.  Always.

Ours has always been the same until today.  The multi-hour delay confused me.

Yes!  I even get a photo.  Who does the tip go to?  I'm assuming the driver, but the shopper (if it's a separate person) seems to do more of the work!

Whole Foods here has separate shoppers and drivers. I asked who got the tip and it was the driver.   My SIL uses instacart exclusively and she says they often work in teams so one can shop while one is delivering 🤷🏻‍♀️
