Ausmumof3 Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Sorry dumb and important question of the day but we seem to go through so many phone charger cables. We end up buying cheap Kmart ones but my last one lasted three weeks in spite of being handled pretty carefully. Anyone got any suggestions for tougher or more durable options? Quote
Pawz4me Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I've had this one for over a year and it's still like new (note there's a newer version available). I love the long length. We've always been pleased with Anker products. 1 Quote

Emba Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I guess I’ve just had pretty good luck. I bought one at a convenience store that has held up for several years under rough use in various vehicles. One from Wal-Mart that has held up longer than the original Apple one that it came with, and a super long one my Dad gave me has so far held up well, but I just got it in June. That one has a woven outer covering, which makes it seem very sturdy but time will tell I guess. He got it at a truck stop. 1 Quote
KatieJ Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I’ve been using Anker brand for years. They hold up well. 2 Quote
gstharr Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 I just got a couple of Anker power pads. They're great. https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Wireless-PowerWave-Upgraded-Fast-Charging/dp/B07THHQMHM 1 Quote
Arcadia Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 My original Apple lightning cables last as long as my AmazonBasics ones. Basically the connector part would wear and tear with time. If you don’t mind the aesthetics, duct taping the connector joint when it looks worn out would help prevent it cracking. Quote

Or if you want to get fancy (and maybe preventative) there are all sorts of cable saver products. This is just one I picked out as an example. You can get ones that look like animals, too. DS24 is the only one of our crew who is hard on cables. He's also horrible about leaving them at friends' houses, in hotels, etc. I'm pretty sure I got the Anker cable because he "borrowed" my original Apple lightning one when he'd lost his. Quote

Duct tape and bandages are just items I always have around even on road trips and I don’t really care about aesthetics 🙂 I have used a bandage on power cables. 1 Quote
Katy Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 amzn.com/B07PHB491R I bought a package of these on a lightning deal, and DH liked them so much he asked me to order 2 more packages as backup. We've never opened the backup packages, they're still cluttering a shelf in my closet. 1 Quote
