saraha Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Does anyone have any first or second hand knowledge of the loss of sense of smell part of Coid-19? Do you know if someone loses it entirely, or if it is just diminished? Thanks Quote
maize Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 I think it varies from person to person, total loss or just diminished. I have one friend who recounted the level of loss of smell varying during the day--so, maybe she could smell most things in the morning but only very strong smells by evening, then the next day the same thing--better sense of smell in the morning, less by evening. 1 1 Quote
brehon Posted August 22, 2020 Posted August 22, 2020 Both can happen, from what my colleagues who experienced this in relation to having CV tell me. (Some had full loss of taste and/or smell; some had partial; some seemed to have a continuum) 1 Quote

Jann in TX Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 Mine was partial-- everything tasted bland for about 2 weeks--I could still smell the cat box... My sister is currently Covid + and has total loss of taste and smell. 5 Quote
Farrar Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 I've read that it's not like when you lose your smell with a cold. That's more like your smell is blunted by congestion. 1 Quote
Acadie Posted August 23, 2020 Posted August 23, 2020 My friend completely lost her sense of smell and taste with Covid. Both came back, but it took almost 3 months. 1 Quote
