This may be the last straw. A beloved relative sent me this podcast and they’re going to want to discuss it and there’s just no way to do this without offending her. She thinks this guy “makes some great points” and I think he’s a rambling buffoon who can’t even stay on his own topic. Right around”why aren’t they telling us fresh air is good for us?” I wanted to throw my phone. He must have listed a dozen things “they aren’t telling us” that are common knowledge or easy stats to access AND have nothing to do with his topic.

Guys, I’ve been good. I’ve been calm and diplomatic and non-bridge burny, but good night my patience is very very thin. I’m gonna attempt just avoiding the discussion. I’ve gone Full Hermit and I’m not fit for polite society.

My family sent a ton of conspiracy stuff my way. After I worked through about 45 minutes of conspiracy with counterpoint after counterpoint (complete with links) they stopped sending it to me and started asking me before latching on to these theories. So that helped! But they’re fairly reasonable and logical in general, so once enough holes are poked they’re usually okay letting go of an idea.

I “should’ go through it point by point but I just don’t WANT to. I want to be related to people who know the difference between a rant and a lecture. It would be nice if someone else on the internet did a reaction video that I could forward, but I think everyone is too tired for this.

Wow, lucky you, with family who listen to logic!

...who the heck does he think is going around telling people that fresh air is bad?

Once I realized (by looking at my screentime stats) that logical refutation of nonsense had become my part-time job (literally - 20 hours a week), that’s when I folded.

And honestly, if there’s one statement that triggers Monster Me, it’s gotta be any version of, “You don’t hear that on the news...” The most recent time someone said that to me, I snapped, “Well then, how do you know about it?” The person said, “It’s all over the internet!” So the internet is not “news”? And being on the internet makes it accurate? Arrgggghh!

Argh, when they say that, and you can find it on several sites with 2.4 seconds of googling, even limiting yourself to very traditional news sources! 🙄

Yep. It was about this time that I blocked my newfound 30 yo niece and put my Dad and his relatives by marriage on mute. They are in too deep and I was about to say some truly regrettable things.
