I am sort of picky....so this might be a challenge...but I hope some of you will rise to the challenge and try to help me out.  First off, I have Hulu, Netflix and Prime for streaming options. I would be open to some of the month by month (inexpensive) streaming options like Hallmark.  I really prefer TV shows over movies.

I don't like Sci-Fi or "dark" shows. I have a hard time making myself watch British shows (although I did watch Doc Martin and l liked that ok)  I just like light-hearted shows that I don't have to think too hard to follow them.

I have watched and enjoyed shows like (not in any particular order, just as they come to my mind)  Gilmore Girls, Everwood, Heartland, When Calls the Heart, Good Witch, Army Wives, Private Practice, Friday Night Lights, Heart of Dixie,  Parenthood, The Guardian to name some. I also follow shows like New Amsterdam, The Good Doctor, This is Us, Chicago Med...

WOW...this list makes it look like all I do is watch TV.....honest I don't but wow....

But until the new seasons start, I am bored in the evenings and I need something to watch. Thanks for being willing to help.

Schitt’s Creek?  Despite the title, it’s ultimately a really positive show about the value of family.  Plus Catherine O’Hara in amazing wigs and costumes.

Virgin River:   Nurse moves to remote Northern California town to work for the grumpy doctor from Heart of Dixie.  Romance ensues.  (With the hunky bartender, not the grumpy doctor!)

Gavin and Stacey:  British, but working class suburban British.  English guy meets Welsh girl.  Will their friends and family get along?  Very funny, with a focus on the mundane joys of family life.

We have similar tastes I think. Some shows I've liked: The Good Place, God Friended Me, Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon, The Neighborhood, Schitt's Creek, Dead to Me, The Crown.

Kim's Convenience, Fresh Off Boat,  Blackish, and Brooklyn 99 are all pretty funny and smart. Dh is watching some WWII series, X team or something, and it's good but a little too intense.  I need a light comedy to get a break from it before I resort to rewatching Gilmore Girls.

Okay, I know this is an old thread, but I tracked down the series your dh was watching -- X-Company on Hulu -- and, boy howdy, it's amazing.  The first few episodes were reasonably mild-mannered, sort of like Mission Impossible without the gadgets, but as season 1 progressed it got ... surprising. As in, I'm usually good about seeing where a plot is headed, but I'm often unsure with this, so it feels more like real life, kwim?

We've now completed season 2, have started reading up on Canada's WW2 history, and I've devolved into A) yelling at the television while watching, or B) ruminating while not watching (eg, the other day wandering around all day saying, "but why did they (the 2 women) get on the train? Where the heck are they going? When can we watch the next episode?"). Dh is recommending it to everyone he talks to.

So, yeah, "intense" is a good description. The acting is great, the writing is decent. The peek into a part of history I knew nothing about (Canada, and for that matter Ireland) has been well done.

Just had to laugh, because your requirements are exactly opposite of mine!  Sorry I can't help!

I recently discovered "This is Us" on Hulu. I know I'm way behind the 8 ball on watching this series. Sometimes when something is popular I purposely won't have anything to do with it. Weird personality trait. But "This is Us" completely lives up to all the hype it created when it was new. I really want to watch the new Dexter but I now I can't let go of "This is Us" to watch it. LOL

Jane the Virgin? I put off watching this for years cuz of the title. But I really enjoyed it as a light-hearted fun (sometimes over-the-top) show. Give it a few episodes to really grab you.

Since you like medical dramas you might like Call the Midwives.  I’m behind the times on this one - I just started watching it last month. It’s really good - I wasn’t sure what to expect, but two episodes in I was hooked.

Have you watched The Crown? It is a British show so you might not care for it.

Have you watched the West Wing? It’s on HBO Max and they do a free trial period.

I wanted to try Call the Midwives, but it's not on Hulu and it cost on Prime.  we stopped Netflix a while back.

I feel like if you like When Calls the Heart you might like Downton Abbey. The accent isn't as hard to understand as other British shows and there's one American. It's drama but like feel-good drama. The bad guys don't just keep winning and most of the characters are really trying to do their best (they may be out of touch with the common person but they try to be decent people).

yeah, Monk would be a good one to try....and where is All Creatures found?

Not the PP but it's on Amazon. I paid for PBS Masterpiece and got the new series made last year and we loved it. The original series is on my Prime but I'm not sure if that's actually on Prime or because I subscribe to Britbox.

I agree with Downton Abbey. There's also Lark Rise to Candleford (DD12 and I watch that together). They're both British shows but easy watching IMO.
