Come int, take a load off, grab a snack and a drink. Take a nap, chat, or read for a bit. Refresh! How many students are you teaching this year? Here: technically, I should be down to one. And I am, mostly. But my daughter who has Aspergers and dyslexia is really struggling to find a job and is getting frustrated and discouraged. Who can blame her? So, I'm having her do some studying to keep her brain active and to help her self-esteem. Even arranged for her to join her BFF (who has not quite graduated) in a life focus study that is designed to help them move forward in life. Looking forward to that for her! Who has started school already? Who is waiting yet? Here: I had thought about waiting until after Labor Day..and still might for a FULL load, for my one remaining student, my ds. But until then, we're going to do REVIEW, because it's needed. Who has NOT started school yet? When do you plan to do so? Here: have done a soft start (began yesterday). mom31257 Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Hi, I haven't been on this thread in so long! How are you doing, Scrap? I hope all is well! How many students am I teaching this year? I'll have to add them up. My son, 12 math students in online live classes, 5 students for tutoring as needed, Co-Op: 9 chemistry students(and ds), 13 3rd-4th graders in a writing class, 6 1st-2nd graders in a language arts class, 9 students in a Hands-On Probability/Statistics class; Book Club for 3rd-5th graders (not sure of the final number but around 15). Several of those 3rd-4th graders will be in the book club, though. So probably around 60. I only get paid for the math students, though. Co-op and book club are voluntary teaching. It's definitely the most ever. It's ds' senior year, and I hope to go to work after he graduates. I figured a super busy year would help prepare me for working full time. School Starting: Our co-op started last Friday and ds started some work last week. I started my online math classes yesterday. The book club starts in September. 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I have three students this year. Oldest graduated high school a couple of months ago. He is staying at home for the next year of college, and is busy with a full load of classes this summer. It’s been nice to see what the demands of those classes are to tailor work for my younger ones. Younger son is in high school this year, and doing online work. I don’t need to plan lessons or grade for him but he in many ways requires the most support. His IEP coordinator is not helpful. His best fit is in a brick and mortar classroom, but this is not happening in a pandemic. My girls are wholly homeschooled. We will ease into our schedule in the last week of August. I am finishing up a number of projects around the house—painting trim work, filling the freezer with prepped food, gardening, etc. in addition to trying to get all of my routine healthcare appointments done and out of the way. I hope to go to the beach a few more times, and I have two more mountain hikes planned. It feels like fall in the morning, though, and that has me worried it will be a long winter. wintermom Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 Thanks for starting out the year again, Scrap. There will be 5 students in my home, myself included. I'm completing my graduate program on-line this year. I will also be homeschooling my youngest ds, who's in grade 9 this year. The other 3 students are 2 dc in university doing their courses on-line and my ds doing grade 11 with a hybrid in-person and on-line model at the local high school. We're all hoping that there will be a few extra-curricular activities to participate in throughout the year to add some normalcy to our life. Youngest ds will continue with guitar lessons for sure. We don't know what else will be available out of their usual basketball, hockey, community theatre and cadets. It's not looking promising, though. I'm in Canada, and my province is one of the highest hit with the virus, so everyone is taking a very cautious move in returning to activities. 1 Quote
Junie Posted August 11, 2020 Posted August 11, 2020 I only have four students this year. This hasn't happened since we added dd14 when she was either 4 or 5. I can't even remember when she started... We school year round, so we have been working through all of the stay-at-home mandates and just going on with life *almost* normally. I'm looking forward to this school year. Dd14 is going into 9th grade, but as she is my fourth high schooler I have a better grasp of how to get where we need to. And I don't have anyone graduating this year, so dd16 will just kind of be coasting through this year with a little bit of ramping up. Dd12 and dd10 are in 7th and 5th. 1 Quote
