provenance61 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 I'm sure this has been discussed before, but wasn't able to find the thread(s). We're looking for helpful online career/interest inventories. Our DS is a rising senior and it would be helpful to know what careers are best suited to his interests. Just in terms of choosing colleges and courses. We already know he's clearly investigative, with realistic. He's more attuned to working alone than directly with people. He likes research and data, but not math. He'd ideally like to work outdoors or in an environment where he's not in one office all day. Is there such a career? We need help in finding it, so he can have some clear paths to explore as he heads into college. Any advice or specific links welcome! Quote
Lori D. Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 (edited) Environmental Scientist or Specialist?Conservations Specialist or Forester?Cartographer?Energy Engineer ?Landscape Architect and/or Installer? something that is a "Green" occupation? something in the Agriculture field? The first 5 of those links are from the Bureau of Labor's Occupational Outlook Handbook, which is a very nice resource for career exploration, that can be searched in several different ways and provides information and yet further links about individual occupations. The last 2 links are from O*Net, a huge and wandering careers website from the U.S. Dept. of Labor. Since you already know 2 of his top 3 of the 6 interest areas that make a "Holland Code", you can plug in his 2 interests of "Investigative" and "Realistic" at the New York Career Zone website, and pull up a list of occupation ideas. Varying the order of the interest areas, and plugging in a different 3rd interest area will provide different lists of occupations to explore For more resources and links, check out the past threads linked on PAGE 6 of the "College Motherlode" thread, pinned at the top of the College Board. Here are some of those threads:Career testing/counseling (2nd post links tons of resources for tests, exploration, curricula, etc.)How to explore possible career/major fits? Best free or cheap career tests?Career aptitude testing free? Happy exploring! Warmest regards, Lori D. Edited August 6, 2020 by Lori D. Quote
