Carrie12345 Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 My 17yo got an envelope in the mail from one of our local health care systems. She sees a pediatrician in that system, but that’s it. The letter states that she is a valued patient receiving orthopedic care, and announcing that they’re moving their orthopedic services to a different system. She’s never received orthopedic care in her life. None of my other kids who use the same pediatrician received such a letter. I didn’t receive such a letter, and I’ve received more services in that system. I checked our health insurance claims to make sure no one is using her card, and it all looks fine. Whaaaaaa??? Why do they have her name and address??? Quote
TheReader Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 We got a letter letting us know that a doctor is leaving a practice. The letter was addressed to one son, and began "As a valued patient under the care of........" It took me a little while to figure out, but yes, said son did, once upon a time, see that particular doctor (I guess; I don't actually recall the name, but correct specialty) for a second opinion on a thing. We're talking one single visit, quite some time ago. I would suspect if your dd ever has had anything at all requiring anything even relating to bones (an x-ray in that office? cast? tendon injury? anything at all even remotely related) that's why they sent it, and I wouldn't worry about it much at all. It's very likely just a case of over-zealous "let everyone know" type things, and since she does see someone in that office or system, that's probably it. Quote

Her only bone X-ray ever was as a toddler in a different state that doesn’t have this system, years before this system existed, lol. (And it was an ER X-ray with no damage and no treatment, to boot.). She did have a chest X-ray... in a different hospital system - not the one sending the letter OR the one taking over that department. Quote

RootAnn Posted August 6, 2020 Posted August 6, 2020 I would guess two databases got mixed up in a mail merge. Quote
Carrie12345 Posted August 7, 2020 Author Posted August 7, 2020 So, I did call yesterday, and didn’t really get an answer that satisfies me after waiting on hold forEVER, lol. I was told that tons of people are calling asking why they got this, with all of the examples being patients from ages ago who were vacationing here or have since moved away from here. The explanation was basically that “everyone” was mailed this. It still doesn’t make sense in my head, as dd NEVER visited that department and EVERYONE in our family has used that umbrella system but none of the rest of us got one. (And she’s not a first alphabetically or first birthday in the household person, either, because I did consider that they might have done one per household.) So I still think it’s fishy. But I’m pretty certain I’m never going to get an answer that fits. Quote
