EmilyGF Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 How can I help ds15 gain in body awareness under the guise of physical fitness? If there were no COVID, I might have him to martial arts. That's not an option, obviously, especially not for a beginner. It needs to be less than 35 minutes per day, I think, and should have strength training and stretching. He does a lot of hiking and biking a few days per week, but his posture is atrocious and he doesn't really have any body awareness. Thanks, Emily Quote
fairfarmhand Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 Pilates? Yoga? Tai chi? All of those will help with those things. I’d think for a boy tai chi might be the way to go. you can find videos in YouTube 1 Quote

I do best with systems so that I don't have decisions to make; otherwise I get lost in decision making. Quote
TABmom Posted August 3, 2020 Posted August 3, 2020 You might not have to count martial arts out. Our dojo is doing great with social distancing. They're outside and working on forms instead of sparring. Quote
PeterPan Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Have you seen Spartan training? Someone mentioned it in my PE thread. They have a free plan for kids. Quote
elegantlion Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 My son took up weight training and it's been great for his posture. He's a very thin, non-sporty young man, who sits at a desk a lot. Granted he bought a huge setup and had to put it in the garage. It was his choice to do so, so motivation was his own. I would think at 15, there would need to be input from from him as to how this could help him in activities he's already doing - the biking and hiking. Quote
alisoncooks Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Would he like DDP yoga? The instructor is very direct and full of personality. Quote
