73349 Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Tomorrow, we start Giving Week, a totally made-up holiday that is my favorite of the whole year. (Thanksgiving is second.) 😍 We've been celebrating since 2009. We won't be able to volunteer with a group this year, as the only place I've seen that allows minors requires a shift that's too long for us, but we may do a trash pick-up. Tonight we'll plan all our giving/helping for the week. If you want to party with us (now or at a time that works better for you), here is a free little workbook and here's some music for inspiration. 🙂 Do you have anything that you celebrate just because you want to? 6 2 Quote
73349 Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 (edited) [personal] A year later, I was feeling really thankful, especially for DS's health, and wanted to do something for other people. I looked for some way to give each day for a week, from Monday through Sunday. I later found out that in India, some people celebrate a Joy of Giving Week (I think late September?). ETA: I looked it up, and it's in early October. Daan Utsav. It just makes me really happy to have a celebration that doesn't have expectations about decorations, presents, or certain foods. (Christmas, unfortunately, makes me really anxious--I've turned decorating over to DS, but gift-giving because it's expected is stressful for me.) This week, we just give what we can, for the joy of helping. Most years, we pick a theme for each day, like education, or water, and look for ways to help around that theme--giving money to an organization, serving in person if possible, communicating to an elected representative that it's important to us, etc. Edited October 2, 2020 by Carolina Wren 1 1 Quote
Kareni Posted August 2, 2020 Posted August 2, 2020 Enjoy your Giving Week! It sounds like a lovely idea. 3 hours ago, whitehawk said: Do you have anything that you celebrate just because you want to? We moved to our current state close to twenty years ago. Each year on our moving date, we have a barbecue and celebrate our own independence day. Regards, Kareni 1 Quote

73349 Posted August 2, 2020 Author Posted August 2, 2020 (edited) We did the whole list! It was awesome. I wish I liked housekeeping to-do lists the way I do this one! Edited October 2, 2020 by Carolina Wren - 1 Quote
