We are back in the States for a few weeks, hoping to do a little travelling (carefully, bc of Covid). Ugh. Hopefully all will be ok, but sheesh...it has to be even more complicated...

I’m in SE Virginia. I go between:

- Eh, a Category 1 hurricane? That’s it? No big deal. I mean, it can’t be worse than the rest of this year.

and

- #!*!?!? Seriously, 2020? Are you kidding me? Gotta bring in all the outside stuff. Stock up on milk and bread!

What I really want to do is crawl under the covers and not come out until 2021.

We are trying to decide whether to leave for GA/NC (western) late Tuesday as planned (so we can be here and see what damage it does) or tomorrow (so we can beat it). The sticking point is DD wanted to come today and if we leave Monday, we will barely see her.

4 weeks here and we see her two days. My heart hurts already but that sucks.

My brother, SIL, niece, nephew and his pregnant wife are leaving today for the OBX--the four wheel drive area of the OBX. It doesn't sound like it's going to be a big deal, but still . . . I'm surprised they're going.

Our friends just evacuated yesterday from the OBX.  They should make sure they can get on.

Right there with you here in Eastern NC. We will be moving some potted plants and putting the deck furniture away today. Supposedly it will "only" be a tropical storm by the time it hits here but this is 2020.

Here in NE NC (about as NE as you can get before you hit VA!) and we are prepping a bit. Moving our porch swing to the garage, rocker on the porch and taking our cushions off of our screened porch furniture. Other than that, we aren't concerned.

As far as getting to 4x4 area of the OBX, Currituck has not evacuated visitors but Dare county has. Corolla, Corova are both 4x4 areas and are both in Currituck.

They can. Ocracoke and the southern parts of Hatteras Island have a mandatory evacuation order, but they're going to the extreme north end of the OBX.

No prep here even before it was downgraded. Our county only opened one shelter after saying they wouldn't open any, and they're telling people not to come unless they have no choice. No evacuation orders for the barrier islands, not even voluntary evacuation orders. Dh's work (where SpaceX launches happen) closed and he got an automated message telling him not to return to work until called. Again, that was just a precaution because it's not going to be much of a storm here. It's a gray rainy day and we're starting to see some outer bands but not much yet. Most will come later this evening, overnight, and tomorrow morning. It's just going to be wet and windy.

Fingers crossed it stays weak after it skirts our coast and heads towards NC.

We decided to leave tomorrow morning and just hope not much happens to our house. Tropical storms tend to knock this area's power out for several days and blow trees down (shallow rooted pines, mostly, but enough to block roads for a day). Dd will come for 3 days when we get back next Saturday. I feel somewhat better.

Central NC here but grew up (and have family) in eastern NC -- about as east as you can get before crossing the sound to the OBX. Saw this meme and it made me LOL:

This is 100% true! 😂

Passed us (Jacksonville, FL) by without leaving so much as a raindrop. 🙌

Here in Brevard (near Kennedy Space Center) we got a little wind but not much more than we get during a normal Florida summer storm. Barely any rain.
