TheReader Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Good morning! No 4 yr old tutoring this morning, since DS still had fever yesterday (we're being abundantly cautious/following "pretend he's positive" protocol, just in case, especially with this family since 4 yr old lives with grandma & great-grandma). So, today is: ...coffee ...organize all the stuff that doesn't require printing ...lunch: dh's domain ...dinner: ???? (there is roast out for the weekend, but for today....???) ...sew: 1-3 of the better shape mask to wear under my face shield while teaching; backing for my round robin quilt; start butterfly blocks &/or something else fun ...check laundry status (and do laundry, as needed) ...call my mom, who posted "feeling lonely" on FB (she gets in moods where she won't call us, b/c she thinks we should call her; apparently, this is one of those) ...check on DS, monitor for fever, symptoms, etc. ...check w/neighbor friend about buying some of her ear loop masks for DS, who'll have to wear them to class when it starts ...also check w/same neighbor about getting logos/college emblems added to masks for DH, who wants one for each of the boys' colleges ...email a potential family that the directors emailed me about ...I think that's all, but anything else that gets done...... happy Friday! 5 Quote

TheReader Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Sorted the new sets of magnetic letters for the kiddos. Realized that "come make words at the board" does not work with "no sharing of supplies" (campus wide decision, I think led by the fact I was already doing this, so...hopefully it helps and all the other teachers don't hate me for it, LOL!). Bought sets that come with 2 sets of capital letters, 3 sets of lower case. Sorted because each set is all one color, and I wanted vowels a different color, so rearranged/swapped vowels out between sets. Packaged those. Now have 8 sets of lower case for the kids, 2 sets of capitals for the kids if I pass 8 students in one class, and 3 full, 1 partial set of capital for me plus however many sets of numbers it came with and some shapes. Organized all of that. Tackling the next stuff. 5 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted July 31, 2020 Author Posted July 31, 2020 logged fasting bloodsugars. My bedtime number was one where the ADA would recommend me eating more before bed but I ignored them this time (since following their advice the night before gave me high numbers) and my fasting sugars this morning were perfect. fed Neko and Juliet fed myself medicated myself medicated Juliet logged food, water, carbs. did my Sparkpeople sleep blog made bed showered and dressed brushed teeth 5 Quote
TheReader Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Lunch is going to be corn dogs; in the oven now. Dinner will be our "will it chicken tender" dinner (where we take various assorted chip flavors, crush them up, and use them on breading for chicken tenders, to see which ones make fun flavors); chicken is thawing now. Gathered all the supplies for the next part of the organization project, emailed a different parent an answer to her question, dropped a stamped letter in the outgoing mailbox. 5 Quote

I am having similar experiences. Why are their recommendations so far off? Are they directing their information at people who are not truly compliant or who just live with high blood sugar levels? The number of carbs they suggest eating daily would have been bad for me even, when I was just eating low carb, before diabetes. With the ability to actually measure levels now, I know for a fact that it is way off. 1 1 1 2 Quote

SKL Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Howdy, happy Friday! Another deadline day, and I am in need of focus to prioritize my work. I also have things to do to get ready for the girls' Confirmation service tomorrow morning. Done: A little walking and computer time before sleeping. Woke up at my leisure, since the kids' sports activities are canceled. 😕 Even so, I got up before 9am, which is a bit surprising. Yoga, TKD practice. A tiny bit of housework. Fed the bird. Caught up on calendar, emails, news, social media. Read half of a health article my friend sent me. Thought about work .... Working on coffee 2. To do: Prioritize work and send stuff out. Want to wash my hair and get a haircut, if I can fit it in, so I don't look scary in church tomorrow. Should probably decide on the menu for next Sunday's party. Or can that wait until tomorrow? Want to sit with my kids and do church-related things before tomorrow. If there's time, I'd like to read some of the readings they gave us parents last fall that I never got to.... Dinner out probably. Would rather skip it, but it's not my choice. Walking. Whatever else gets done. 5 Quote
TravelingChris Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Good morning! Done Coffee-- dh had to make because I could hardly walk since I was in such pain, breakfast (my pain and muscle spasm meds kicked in, meds To do: go to Hobby Lobby and pick up posters what were framed with dd2 (her name day present) go to Great Harvest Bread Company--- I am so happy they opened a store here, we used to love going to this bakery when we lived in Albuquerque call lab and see if they have order and if so, arrange lab time call PT- for OT and another for PT for dry needling and warmth therapy go to Coumadin appointment call senior center and find out where they are sending potential dementia patients for neuro- psych testing (so far, I found one person here but they have filled their Tricare slots and refuses to let me self pay--- I have found one place in Nashville and they have ability to test in Dec and they refuse to deal with Humana- all Humana patients, whether Tricare, Medicare, company plans, etc. But their self pay is reasonable- 900-1500 and we would get reimbursed probably nearly all that money since Tricare paid around that much last time.) continue with spread sheet for vacation Coumadin appointment Tele- appointment in garage with my psychiatrist to try to get her to prescribe a stimulant ADHD medicine-- I was using Strattera for ADHD but my one of my liver functions is going up and I already got rid of one other medicine and lowered one of my 5 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Thunder just as we left our neighborhood, so no pool today. Took a shower - having clean hair is so good! Started bathroom towels in the washer. Making hot tea now. Gonna read and nap, enjoying the sound of the rain and a quiet house. 4 Quote

Lots of the regular stuff that is recommended is way off for me because I am not a typical case. Both you and Jean may not be typical diabetics. Furthermore, you are completely right that at times they recommend all sorts of stuff based on their expectation that people will not be compliant. Masking to protect others is partly done to to protect against what occurred in the orthopedic pain clinic I was at yesterday. Yesterday morning, they had a person who violated the warning on the front door and area, the warnings on the check in area, lied on the forms that they give to make sure you don't have COVID but at least had a mask. Once they had that person in a room and I am not sure if it was one of the Medical Assistants or the Doctor (it wasn't the PA I saw), found out she was positive for COVID. 5 Quote

The American Diabetic Association has a pretty high a1c blood glucose level as their goal - a level that staves off the worst complications of diabetes but which still isn't good for you. So their recommendations are ones that keep you up there instead of getting you as close as possible to "normal". 3 1 Quote
TheReader Posted July 31, 2020 Posted July 31, 2020 Finished the organizing for today -- I got all of the stuff downstairs organized/arranged enough that I can now bring down the stuff from upstairs. Stopping there for the day. Had lunch, took a nap, oldest son took the newly arrived (ordered online 'cause they were out in person when we went last week/early this week) sheets upstairs and put away. Called and talked to my mom, and she's seeming much better. DH & oldest are bike riding w/the dogs, then we will all come down and cook dinner for our "will it chicken tender" experiment. After that, maybe some sewing. DS15 still has not had fever or anything else today, nor anyone else, so that's good. 5 Quote

TheReader Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 Our "will it chicken tender" was fun; not so tasty, but fun. LOL! We tried BBQ chips, cheetos, cool ranch chips, nacho cheese chips, sour cream & onion chips, plain chips, chili cheese fritos, extra cheesy cheese nips, goldfish crackers, cinnamon toast crunch cereal, and fruit loops. Did 5 nuggets of each flavor so we could all have one of each. Family "favorite" was the chili cheese frito ones, but we all agreed we wouldn't re-make any of them. LOL! It was fun, though. After dinner, I made four new face masks for me to wear under my face shield. I have one clear panel face mask, but upon wearing it tutoring, I like it less and less (it gets too condensation-y). Since these will be only for up close stuff, when the kids won't need to see mouth formation, etc., I think regular will be fine, and these are the scalloped sort of style so they are low under my eyes, breathable at the nose, and use ear loops for easy on/off under the face shield. I used cute kid-friendly/teacher-y fabrics 🙂 The boys are still video-gaming, so not sure if I'll do some more sewing or switch to something else. DS is still fever free! 4 Quote
TravelingChris Posted August 1, 2020 Posted August 1, 2020 7Went to coumadin clinic and I had done well by myself bringing my INR up so no shots needed. Then I had a telemedicine call w my psych and finally convinced her to let me try a stimulant for my add. (Adderal 5mg 1 in morning, 1 it noon). Now driving out of the Heart Center parking lot, I noticed they had done sime new construction and added poles to mandate only right turns out. Between not being in any ADHD medicine and the new construction, I accidentally drove over a curb. I quickly realized something was wrong and pulled over on a residential street. It was one of my brand new tires having a flat ( we replaced all 4 fix weeks ago). At least it happened so close to mr buying it because I have an AWD Subaru and you normally can't replace just 1 but since the tires are so new, I will just have to buy one.i wasnt able to pick up my prescription though. Had a lot of back and forth changing of what is planned tomorrow and I was just happy to eat a tasty dinner and watch a Forged in Fire and now will watch an ID Channel as I get sleepy, hopefully 3 Quote
