Terabith Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 (edited) I had an appointment to donate blood tomorrow with the Red Cross. I got a phone call today cancelling that appointment, despite the apparent desperate need for blood, because they were having a staff meeting. This is the THIRD time my blood donation appointments have been cancelled since the pandemic started. The last time, they wanted to reschedule me for an appointment in a town two hours away. I want to be civic minded, but it increasingly feels like they are not good stewards of their volunteers. Edited July 28, 2020 by Terabith 3 Quote
Tanaqui Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 Yeah, the Red Cross is awful in so many ways. If you can donate with anybody else, you should. 2 Quote
Clemsondana Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 My brother jus donated at the Red Cross because they do free antibody screening. Despite an appointment, they didn't take his blood until he'd been there for 45 minutes - they told him and the other person donating at the same time to go to a specific area to wait, then somebody yelled at them for being there, then they did some paperwork and got sent back again, and then after a wait the phlebotomist wandered out and hadn't been told that they were there. There are other places to give, and he told them he'd never be back. My grandfather hated the Red Cross due to his experiences with them as a soldier in WWII. There are a lot of charities and blood donation places out there so my family tends to look elsewhere. 1 Quote
Ottakee Posted July 28, 2020 Posted July 28, 2020 I strongly believe in blood donation....but it is frustrating. My son and I get calls and emails to donate blood....but all local drives are booked solid. I would donate if I could get an appointment. Quote
