PeterPan Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 I updated to iOS 13 (yes, I know 14 is coming lol) and am trying to catch up! Figured out reminders and put a *widget* so they show when I swipe. Next I want to learn Shortcuts. Apparently it can do all sorts of things. I'm thinking I might make shortcuts to make Things3 (for my lists and projects) play nicer with siri. Anything cool you're doing? Are you trying the iOS14? Maybe I should just go all the way? Hehe. Maybe with 14 I won't need shortcuts? Quote
Guest Posted July 27, 2020 Posted July 27, 2020 Yes. I don’t know why I never knew this before, but you can scan a document and turn it directly into a PDF. This is an absolute boon for me when dealing with rental applications and such for tenants. I always had to do it the time-consuming way from my computer. But you can do it from iPhone: Hold your finger on the Notes app a menu will pop up; choose “scan document” use your phone’s camera to frame the document choose the option to Save to PDF. 6 3 Quote

I was coming to post this - this has been so darn helpful! 2 Quote

I'll try this! I've been doing it with Turboscan for years. I scan and email docs frequently for ds' stuff. It also sounds like I need to try long pressing more apps to see what happens lol. 1 Quote

PeterPan Posted July 29, 2020 Author Posted July 29, 2020 So I figured out how to add shortcut widgets to the control panel thing you swipe back to from the home page. You start with theirs and then can make custom. I'm really liking the one that texts someone when yo'll be home! I didn't realize you can now tell Siri what app to use for a task. So you can say "using google maps" give me directions to blah blah an it will. I want to make shortcuts so it will use Things3 when I say add to my lists. I like Reminders for tasks for the day because they look better in the widget and appear is my Calendars5 week view. But for more involved lists I need Things. Then I can move around, repopulate, etc. Total winner. Next to find an app I really like that I can use to schedule ds' school work. I'm in this splint 2 more weeks and I have school planning to do! Typng right now is very fatiguing sigh. I want something like Things but more like a spreadsheet, able to generate tables. That would be amazing. Quote

I guess I'm a dunce. Can someone please take pity on me and tell me what I'm doing wrong? When I hold my finger on my Notes app, all that happens is all the icons start wiggling around, waiting to either be moved or deleted. I'm a techie failure. 😌 Quote

PeterPan Posted July 30, 2020 Author Posted July 30, 2020 Well I'm LOVING reminders now that I have it set up with a widget. Things3 is great but I need to do the shortcuts to add to my lists via siri without saying "using things". So transformative to have my tech able to do what I normally write but can't with my bum arm. Stupid thing. I want to be able to convert info on a webpage or google maps to a contact. Surely there's a way? Anone kniw how? Quote

If I open the app, it works, but it was the long push or whatever that didn't work. 16 hours ago, PeterPan said: what iOS are you running? go up to 13 Whatever was on the phone when I got it in December. 🙃 I wondered if that was the issue as I was reading the article Æthelthryth posted. I think magical stuff came in 12 but I skipped that and went right to 13. The Shortcuts in 13 are awesome, worth the time to update. If your phone is up to date, then eat more chocolate till your fingers can do it. Quote
