I haven’t painted in a long time, so I’d love some help from my Hive friends. Dd will be turning 13 in a week and her bedroom walls are still pink (this was the last time I painted...about 6 years ago when we moved in and painted her room pink!). We have been looking at houses, so a move may be in our future. There is little inventory though, so we may be here for a bit longer. I promised dd that I wouldn’t make her turn 13 in her bright pink, little girl room. So we are planning to paint this weekend.

She loves the Boho look (white furniture, lots of plants, vines - that is how she is describing boho anyway) and she would like gray bedding (with tassels, if I can find it). What color would you paint the walls? I was thinking a lighter gray. We definitely want something fairly neutral.

Any good websites you can send me to? I also plan to paint her existing dresser white (it was mine when I was a child!). I’ve never painted furniture, so tips would be appreciated as well.

That look generally means white paint everywhere.  DH jokingly refers to it as the sanitarium look.  The same one my mom loved in the late 80's & early 90's, minus the golden oak.

A more subtle, timeless version would be white on white.  In other words, various shades of off white.

Colors to check out:

bm white dove

bm white opulence (my favorite white)

bm cottontail (the online swatch looks awful, in person it's a sunny pale cream color)

bm light pewter

and any other swatches she likes.  I would honestly take her to the paint department with you, grab sample pots of the two colors she likes best and your favorite two of the ones I suggested above, and paint them in the room OVER either a coat of white primer or a piece of white posterboard so the pink paint doesn't ruin your perspective.

That is exactly the change my DD made to her room at about the same age – from a pink & purple girly room to a boho teen room with B&W bedding, strings of lights, lots of art & photos on the wall, etc. We painted the walls a soft aqua which looks awesome with the white furniture, B&W rug, B&W bedding, and accessories in various shades of black/gray/white and turquoise..

So...dd’s furniture is (will be) white. Do I still want white walls? I need to repaint her trim and bedroom door as well. Do I just paint them plain white (does that color exist? Lol)?

I wouldn't do white walls with white furniture, white trim, and gray & white bedding. As I mentioned, we used a pale aqua, but you could also look at some of the light grays that have a blue/green tint like Sea Salt  or similar tones. Sea Salt would be a great color for resale, since it's quite neutral and doesn't read as too young or too girly.

(Personally I would lighten Sea Salt 50%, as it can look much darker than you'd think at night and in a room with low light. I used it at 50% in my own bedroom.)

I like that!! With a very pink room, dd wants to stay away from anything overly girly (although dd is quite girly!). Decorating just doesn’t come natural to me. This is all so helpful.

Does she lean urban loft boho? You could do an accent wall in a faux brick panel.

I have no idea!! I will have to look that up.

This wouldn’t be too daunting to recreate. There are lots of nice rooms with red brick too. Also, look at some of the black accent walls. They make the plants look really nice if you’re brave enough to go for it.

That is beautiful! And it looks like th style that my dd likes. I wouldn’t know where to begin with that wall!

Dolphin Fin is a very light/bright gray - it looks really nice when paired with whites.

I love that!! We will try a sample and see how it works. Thank you!!

I have a thing for paint colors.  (Not a talent, lol, just an addiction.  DF was my third try at the *right* gray, lol.)
