medawyn Posted July 20, 2020 Posted July 20, 2020 History/Biography or Science? For a student with typical 2nd/3rd grade maturity and a decently high reading level. I promise I’m not lazy. My library just has super limited access right now (low limits and limited pick ups in a month), and I’m hoping to expand his nonfiction reading without picking a lot of duds. He’s fascinated by airplanes, especially military aircraft, WWII, weather, and fun things like volcanoes and earthquakes. Quote
Calizzy Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 My sons loves the "I Survived" series. They have several airplane/Ww2 books. I survived pearl harbor, etc. 1 Quote
mellifera33 Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 My kids have enjoyed the Who Was/What Was series. You'd probably know them if you saw them--my kids call them the "big head books." My son liked Who Was Winston Churchill, Who was FDR, What was Pearl Harbor, What was D-Day, and others. 2 Quote
Junie Posted July 21, 2020 Posted July 21, 2020 For history, I would recommend the Cornerstones of Freedom series. For science, Seymour Simon books are very colorful and engaging. I also like books by Jean Fritz and Russell Freedman for non-fiction. 1 Quote
annegables Posted July 23, 2020 Posted July 23, 2020 Not totally a series, but there are 5 of these books by DK Publishing: https://www.amazon.com/Where-Earth-Atlas-World-Before/dp/1465458646/ref=sr_1_1?crid=33DB7FZ05SEMD&dchild=1&keywords=where+on+earth+atlas&qid=1595480379&sprefix=where+on+ear%2Caps%2C418&sr=8-1 They are wonderful maps with great ways of visually representing all kinds of data. We own all 5 and my kids read them for pleasure. These books are packed with interesting info! Quote
