Keeping the details private, at least for now. Friend of roommate tested positive. So now they all need tests and quarantining. Very frustrating for YA, who has been very careful. Hopefully will come back negative, however I think 2 week quarantine is still the best precaution. I was going to be having family dinner today for everyone but that’s out.

I think many of us will have similar stories in the coming months.

I wish I lived in New Zealand right now.

Sending some hugs.   It is hard when you have been so careful for so long.    I think we are all going to have this experience.

I wish I lived in new Zealand too, or any other country that is doing a better job than the United States.

Maybe look at that recent thread about what to do and take if you have been exposed.

Thank you for doing the right thing.   I wish everyone would.

I am your kiddo tests negative.

Ugh! I’m sorry to hear your daughter has to go through this. It sounds like she’s doing all the right things; if she can swing quarantining for two weeks even if the test comes back negative, that would be ideal. Testing reliability is low in this country. I wish our government would be willing to more honest about it, and take appropriate action. Alas. *I will not rant, I will not rant*

Sending out positive thoughts.

your YA did not come into direct contact with the covid patient?  Then she doesn't necessarily need to test or quarantine for the 2 weeks.  Everything I read (since we were potentially exposed nearly 3 weeks ago) was that if you had been in contact with a close contact of a covid patient you need to monitor your symptoms closely.   The roommate who came into contact with the covid patient will need to quarantine away from everyone else.

I would definitely have your YA wear a mask and practice social distancing and keep the person away from them.  Clean everything.  Start taking zinc, Vit C. and other supplements.

I came into contact with a close contact of a covid patient and we stayed away from everyone for about 4-5 days and kept a close eye on symptoms.  Basically I played "Is it covid or is it allergies" for a days---bought a pulse-ox and checked my temp several times a day.  We cancelled everything we had planned within the next week just to be extra safe.  Told everyone we might have seen what had happened to let them decide their comfort level if they were going to see us.   Interestingly, close contact (my sister) never got covid from her husband and neither did their daughter.  Thankfully, we've all been fine too.   BIL got it at work and several of his co-workers also got it.

Yes. (It was my son, not my daughter.) Son was in direct contact with the friend-of-roommate for “about an hour” last week.

I am having him monitor and note any possible symptoms and told him to order a PO off Amazon. (I have one here, but he should have one ASAP, so he should order it. Plus I want to keep mine here for us.)

Its a good idea to have more than one floating around.  My sister didn't have one and I ended up giving mine to her since her husband was so sick and it was clear we were fine.  They didn't even know what it was... I was surprised the hospital didn't make sure he had one.  He has double pneumonia.  Of course, because of Covid, my sister could not go into the hospital with him and he was pretty sick even when they sent him home after one night stay.  They may have said something but it didn't register.

Update: Son tested negative for COVID! 😊. Also, no symptoms since the exposure and it is nearing 2 weeks.

Great news!
Glad you can breathe a bit easier now.

I’m telling you, the college town where he lives is tallying record numbers of positives in his age cohort. So for him and his gf to test negative is an extreme relief!
