lulalu Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Last year we watched and loved Mythic Warriors and it fit great with our study of Greek Myths. Wondering if there is a great tv series or movies for middle ages, midieval period. Anything great for Beowulf? Vikings? Artists? What all have your elementary kids loved? Lori D. Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) A few quick ideas to get you started: Literature connections:Arabian Nights (2000) -- Hallmark TV-mini-series; wonderful writing; I'd rate it PG, with just 2 very brief suggestive scenes, not at all graphicBeowulf (1998) -- animated; the language actually mimics some of the original epic-poem feel; this is the ONLY version I'd recommend (other versions are GRAPHIC, and differ greatly from the original story)Sir Gawain and the Green Knight -- 6-minute animated version Nonfiction: Cathedral -- David Macauley documentary with short animated segments of a story showing a cathedral being built Edited July 17, 2020 by Lori D. 4 Quote
Little Green Leaves Posted July 17, 2020 Posted July 17, 2020 (edited) Not what you were looking for but I really like the British History podcast: https://www.thebritishhistorypodcast.com/category/the-dark-ages/ It's meant for adults, and I always put it on for myself with zero expectation that the kids will even stay in the room, much less listen -- but as it turns out, my history-nerd son loves it, and even my daughter will kind of dip in and out of it. It's just really well-done, straightforward story telling, and I like the way they make characters into real people. There's nothing inappropriate in it. Once in a while the host will kind of hint at adult material (like a king having a concubine) but that goes over my kids' heads. I'm keeping an eye on this thread for more suggestions for kids! I'd especially love ideas about vikings. I've been reading my daughter Viking Tales and she's fascinated by them, but also a little scared -- which makes it hard to find anything to watch about them. Lots of stuff about Vikings really plays up the scary angle! Edited July 17, 2020 by Little Green Leaves 1 Quote
