SKL Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Happy Wednesday & Big Tax Day. (Don't forget to mail your payments if you pay directly!) Done: Updated plans for August party on fb (need to send more detailed email today). Slept more than I meant to, less than I wanted to. Kid2 to horse barn. Cleaned part of the garage & backyard. Took out the garbage. Caught up on emails, news, calendar, social media. Working on coffee 1. To do: At least 3 client deliverables that I promised overnight or before. Lots of other client work. Email and fb post re August party. Pay bills. Make health appointments for the kids. Sign up for next weekend's TKD camp / belt test & work on black belt test application. Make the kids practice music, water plants, clean their messes and maybe practice math? Laundry. Pizza day. A little reading, cleaning. Yoga, TKD practice, walking, running. Whatever else gets done. 6 Quote
TheReader Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Good morning! Today my hand ("hurt" while sewing on applique's; maybe beginning of arthritis?? Or arthritis-like pain, anyway..?) is some better, and no worse after last night's sewing. So, that's good. My list today is: ...coffee ...sew more today ...take DS15 for his retainer check; see if the dentist is scheduling yet for cleanings, as he was due in March and now with the braces off he really needs it ...if the dentist is scheduling, get him scheduled for ASAP ...email the directors of our co-op; they've asked for teacher input on Zoom as an option. I have many thoughts on that, but need to communicate them politely and concisely. ...work on lesson plan stuff ...any needed prep work for tutoring the 4 yr old tomorrow ...wash 1-2 more loads of laundry, fold the load from yesterday ...lunch: ??? ...dinner: DH has beans going in the crock pot - yum! remember to make corn bread to go with it My biggest challenge today will be the email about Zoom. I really need to gather my thoughts into a clear & concise, politely worded email. The difficulty is that sure, setting up my laptop for a live Zoom during my classes (for those who want online vs in person) would of course be the *easiest* thing for me to do, yes. However, it's possibly the *least effective* means of conveying Kindergarten across the internet, and has a zillion and one challenges associated, not the least of which is overcoming the "we can't show any children w/o permission" aspect -- if half the class decides to be online, and are Zoomed in live, then keeping the other half from coming around to the laptop to see their classmates will be impossible. Even if I redirect them immediately, there is zero way to guarantee that a child won't end up in view of the camera. so, am I willing to set up my laptop and offer Zoom?? Sure. Do I think it's a good idea and an effective means of offering my classes?? Not at all. Am I willing to do all of the work I did from March to May to offer my class online some other way?? Oh my word, please no. So, conundrum. Made worse because the directors have already posted on our website that Zoom will be an option, and already told parents it will be an option. Which is coloring my thoughts on this as well. Anyway, grabbing another coffee and then will try to work on that before time to go to the Orthodontist with DS. Wish me luck! 5 Quote

TheReader Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Wrote the email; DH wants me to save it for him to look at before I send it, so that's fine. Probably the ending needs tweaking, as I got rambly. Started laundry; going to throw it in the dryer and then off to the orthodontist. Need to remember to stop and get DS's meds on the way home. 4 Quote
SKL Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Finished one of those urgent client things (actually a package of 10 things), but first I had to fix my printer. Yay. On to the next job .... 5 Quote
Selkie Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Started laundry Went through Subscribe & Save list - had to run around checking if we need toothpaste, shampoo, batteries, etc. Canceled an order for some funny t-shirts that were supposed to be for ds20's bday back in June. Don't ever order from Busted Tees! They charged my credit card a month ago, but have sent nothing. When I inquired, they sent a canned response saying "we're behind but hope to get to your order soon". I see on Facebook that many others are in the same boat. Now I am anticipating trouble getting refunded & will probably have to contact the credit card to dispute the charge. Swatted flies in the mudroom Filled horse supplement jars Restocked dog food cabinet Ordered dog supplements 4 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 @Selkie I have a no-show t-shirt order that was supposed to arrive in June too. Need to follow up! @TheReader Dd's tutorial is offering simultaneous live and digital classes. I an very skeptical that it will be successful for the kids participating remotely. Even for high school age. Just two different kinds of teaching. 4 Quote

Jean in Newcastle Posted July 15, 2020 Author Posted July 15, 2020 Scrubbed the refrigerator part that was in my shower. (Hey, it works so don't knock it!) Folded and put away one load of laundry One load of laundry is in the washing machine I am desperately looking for a CPap part that I need to hook up my new mask. I had to take it off temporarily in order to use the not-so-good-one that they had me try out (different brand) but when my new one in the original brand came, I can't find the part where I am sure that I put it. So today I moved all the furniture in that area. No part. But I did vacuum under all that furniture so that part is good. Time to share a salad with the bunnies. 4 Quote
TheReader Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 @ScoutTN, thanks for saying so. I really don't see how live Zoom works for my classes. I've written a very long, very heartfelt email (which DH is editing now....we'll see what he keeps in). (deleting a bunch of my thoughts on the off chance any of my fellow teachers or directors or on this board and see my comments here......). Bottom line: please let me determine the best way to deliver remote content, and trust me when I say that "live Zoom during class" is not the best way. 4 Quote
TheReader Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Took DS to the orthodontist; that cracked me up because yesterday they called and asked us to come 30 mins earlier. We got there and they were running behind. We waited until the original appointment time. DS thinks they forgot to update their schedule after they talked to me. stopped off for meds; forgot paper plates (remembered the wine that I couldn't buy on Sunday because I grocery shopped before stores can sell alcohol) Had lunch Swapped laundry around, started the next one DH is editing my email Took a nap My hand hurts more, so probably should ice it some The girl who hosts the round robin event just texted to say I owe her $15 for my part of the groceries for the meals that our group is providing for the thing that I am mostly not attending (plus which i am bringing dessert to leave for them....); need to text her back and find out about that, as this is the first I'm hearing that we were doing it that way. (texted her back; we'll see what she says) Prepping for the tutoring student for tomorrow, then icing my hand, folding laundry, etc. 4 Quote
TheReader Posted July 15, 2020 Posted July 15, 2020 Ok, DH's edits are good, sent the email. I hate confrontation, so hopefully they aren't mad. But they asked for input, so I'm being honest. And polite. But honest. Heard back from the round robin person, apparently we are all pitching in for groceries. Okey-doke. I'll skip the dessert, then, she said she knew nothing about that part (she's the one that told me to bring it; if she doesn't want it, better for me). I think she's annoyed because I'm only coming for the quilt reveal part, not the whole retreat but people, if you've seen the Covid numbers for my state......no, I'm not going to come have a 3 day slumber party with 15 women, stay up late sewing, buffet style food that we all cook/serve/eat together, shared bathrooms.......no. Would it be super fun normally?? YES. Was I looking forward to it?? YES. Am I willing to risk it right now?? Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. If I could avoid going all together, I would. I plan to wear my mask, sit in the back, and generally probably annoy everyone by being "overly cautious" but too bad. 4 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted July 15, 2020 Author Posted July 15, 2020 Went to the chiropractor did a quick grocery shop at the grocery store next to the grocery store. It's good that I only go to this store every two weeks because they have this locally made "tiger butter" (peanut butter/ chocolate / vanilla) there that is sooooo good and yet so bad for me. But I bought it anyway. . . 3 1 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) Just after I got home, a pickup drove slowly down my street with a guy playing a piano in the back. I heard "Walking in Memphis" and went to see. His friends were videoing him. He went up and down the street several times, playing and singing. He played Rocky Top just as Dh got out of his car! Fun! Nashville is still Music City, despite the wretched virus. Edited July 16, 2020 by ScoutTN 4 Quote

TheReader Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 That is so cool, Scout!!! How fun! I folded/hung up one load of laundry. Had dinner. Sewed the pieces on the quilt for today. My hand is super sore now. 😞 I left off the 4th little Christmas present applique on that side because I just couldn't keep going. (it's not a pattern, so it's okay) Brought down the other load of laundry to fold down here. DS is doing Zoom church. Had another email about a spot in my class; replied to her. Heard back on the grocery money text; DH isn't thrilled about that (paying for part of groceries for the retreat I'm not going to). Prepped for tomorrow's tutoring. DONE. Iced my hand earlier, going to rest, veg out, and relax and hope it improves. 3 Quote

SKL Posted July 16, 2020 Posted July 16, 2020 Whew, I got a bunch done today. Filed 12 tax returns and 5 extensions, paid a pile of bills, organized my tax papers from 2007 thru 2018, filed a pile of personal papers from the past few years, and more. Plus the usual client work, family stuff, etc. I still have several things that are behind, which would be nice to send out tomorrow morning. It's close to 2am and I don't feel like sleeping or working right now. 😛 3 Quote
