If you think you are coming down with something, how much extra Quercetin, NAC, D or C etc do you take?  By milligrams/dosage if you can please.  What symptoms would you take extra for?  Would you give to your teen?

any other info is appreciated.  Thanks!

No specific amount I know of.  I would take it along with zinc according to package dosage recommendation if I though a coronavirus (or perhaps other virus) was possible

I have taken it for allergies and given it to dog for allergies. No specific amount. Maybe the package dosage 3 times per day

NAC,

In divided doses morning, middle day, night I might take 3000 mg (1000 each dose) for short term use.  More frequent smaller doses could be even better

Otherwise I take 1000 mg per day, though I miss some days.

I would not currently go over 2000 mg daily long term.

My teen has taken NAC for anxiety 1000mg as needed

we take it (one NOW or Source Natural tablet) along with acetaminophen if we take that—to help protect liver

D

D3 and along with K 1 and 2 and magnesium and possibly other cofactors

I would refer to vitaminDwiki for ideas of amount based on situation and weight etc.

I have personally taken large loading doses as per VitaminDwiki (like 100,000iu) and gotten rid of budding illness in past  (link at bottom)

My teen takes a D3 50K iu every few weeks or month or so— iirc so far not extra when sick  I would like him to get his level checked so we would know what he actually needs, but he hasn’t done so thus far

My teen has taken C, 500 mg or 1000mg every hour or two to bowel tolerance and has gotten rid of budding illnesses that way.

I take some, but for me D3 seems to work better to get rid of illness while for my teen C seems to make more of a difference.

we both find C helpful for allergies

Symptoms like congestion, runny nose, sore throat...

I bring information to my teen and let him decide for himself

My teen  has taken one or another multivitamin somewhat irregularly over the years  - working from kid gummies with little in them, to teen ones with somewhat more,  to occasional adult or men formula ones.

He largely figured out the Vitamin C for himself.

I also would take a good Multi B complex

and a good multivitamin

plus a source of E (like sunflower seeds), A, and Selenium (such as Brazil nuts)

I not only would take K1 and K2 to balance the D3, but also for their own sake - for immunity, blood flow, etc

(my one caveat would be in regard to “extra” I would check symptoms that could be side effects of anything  I was already taking to make sure I was taking extra for an illness (or allergy) , not dealing with side effects to something already being taken. )

Is it safe to take NAC along with antidepressants?

Idk. I would ask doctor prescribing the antidepressants and look it up on sites online that have such information.

(Vitamin D, NAC, and inositol all have antidepressant and anti anxiety effects— but none of us are on prescription medication.)

@Pen  Can you recommend a good quercetin?  I bought NOW brand quercetin with bromelain, and unfortunately the bromelain gives me a terrible stomach ache. (Or if you know some way to mitigate the effect of the bromelain, that would also work.)

My main Quercitin is microingredients brand Quercitin dihydrate powder — originally gotten for dog’s allergies. No bromelaine supposed to be nothing else.

I also have a Solaray brand blend of Quercitin EMIQ with rutin and hesperidin two other bioflavonoids.

Thank you for the wonderful details!  This is a huge help.  Ds may be coming down with something. I’ve been doing regular daily doses for us, but he might need more.   It could just be allergies and heat etc but good to know extra C even can help with that.  Thanks again!

Most of these vitamins and minerals that improve immune system for illnesses also do so for allergies, so generally its good either way— and they are often synergistic.

So C can help allergies.   Quercitin is most often used as a supplement for allergies afaik—or that at least was my first introduction to it.

And so do D and NAC:

And

NAC works to divide the disulfide bond of a mucin protein backbone, making adhesive mucus water-soluble (and thus, easier to flush out of the system). Progressive Nutracare NAC contains 1200 mg of pure N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine per serving, helping to support glutathione production and reduce symptoms of seasonal allergies.Dec 11, 2018

I’ve even heard people say that D lessens their food allergy symptoms, I’d probably be afraid to count on that with a severe food allergy though.
