Hedgehog Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Been MIA.. I've been ill. Long story, but basically a combo of physical health problems and then extended family issues. I took a few days off my tutoring, and I'm glad I did. So today's list: Tutoring: a profoundly dyslexic 9yo; a 1hr science session for 10-13yos; and a 1hr English session for 13-15yos Friday's workout with my online group Listening to my bible readings whilst sewing A short walk with DD12 Resting/relaxing in the evening That last one is really important and a new thing for me. I am putting rest and relaxation on my list, because I need to get into the habit of giving myself those spaces. I instinctively don't do that, but it needs to change for my own mental and physical health. 6 Quote

I'm so glad you're prioritizing recovering. I really keep telling myself I am going to structure down time. I've always struggled to be still and I am certain it affects my health too. 4 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 No wifi here! No Hamilton tonight! SO sad!!!! I hate this year. Just one long stream of dissapointment and loss for my kids. Turns out I had written down tutoring sessions incorrectly so no session today, which is good bc not sure it would work well on my phone. Dh can't work with no wifi, so we are losing 5 days of his income, bc AT&T will not have a repairman out here until 7/9. I can go to the tutoring center next week with my laptop and do both remote sessions and necessary other work from there. Next up: breakfast and walk. Hopefully food and exercise will help my attitude. 1 4 Quote
Selkie Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Good morning! Hi Hedgehog! Good to see you! Scout, I am sending all kinds of prayers and good vibes for your wifi to start working. Sometimes ours will quit and then inexplicably start back up again. I hope that happens for you because having to wait until 7/9 is ridiculous! clean fridge! I didn't get this done yesterday. put away produce that is covering all my counters roast a bunch of veggies bathe horses give the automatic waterer a scrub maybe sweep out the hay sheds - might wait for a cooler day or a very early morning to do this because it is a hot and dusty job order printer ink!! keep forgetting to do this repot some plants do a little gardening read dinner: buffalo cauliflower wings and green goddess pasta salad two of the kids are watching Hamilton tonight, so I might watch with them (despite my lifelong aversion to musicals 🙂) 5 Quote

ScoutTN Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 (edited) @Margaret in CO There is a movie about the Lipizzaners being rescued in WW2. Miracle of the White Horses. We watched it after reading Margurite Henry's book and watching a PBS documentary about the Vienna riding school and the Lipizzaners. Made a nice unit study. I may have to find the book you mentioned for Dd! Our AHG girls have been riding this summer. I should make a booklist and send it out. Edited July 3, 2020 by ScoutTN 5 Quote

Jean in Newcastle Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 Scout - is there a relative's house where they have wifi where your dh could set up his laptop while still social distancing? I realize that he can't go down to Starbucks but wondering if there are some out of the box solutions so that he's not away from work for so long. 4 Quote
TheReader Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 Well, pooh. Friends just cancelled a social-distancing "picnic" we were going to have on Sunday. Numbers are spiking near us, and friend works outside the home so is exposed (potentially exposed) daily, so I get it, but...boo. So, today: Done already -- ...coffee ...help DH weed the trees/garden beds ...have kids help me sort all my supplies into "kid packs" instead of "group bins" for school next year (so, 10 packs of markers, 10 packs of lacing cards/laces, 10 packs of playdough/cutters, etc...) ...eat lunch To do still -- ...label the bags of stuff ....realize the black ones aren't easily label-able, so swap them for another color ....take the 5 of us to (socially distant) visit my grandma and (socially distant) visit MIL ....pick up food to go from somewhere for during one of those visits ....come home, hang out The sorting was fun, the labeling is taking forever. The friend cancelling for Sunday bummed me out. I get it, I get it, I get it. I respect her for it, I appreciate it.....I get it. But it still bums me out. (plus, we would have done our weekend differently, honestly, but that's fine too). Bah. I need to remember to be grateful; she is the one looking out for us, after all. We are still relatively limited on our exposure (grocery store once/week, at most. Tutoring a 4 yr old, but masking for it. Assorted socially distant visits with relatives, as above, but even at that, not much). Just wanted to pop in and say Hi.....gotta head back to the labeling. 5 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 Put garbage out. Put recycling out talked to Mom95. I haven't been able to talk to her lately due to phone problems so it was very nice to talk to her. She got to see my sisters yesterday on the Assisted Living patio, which was really really nice for her. 4 Quote

He may be able to work in a limited way from our church building, which is huge and largely empty. But he usually works from 2 large screens at home and three at the office, a setup which is not really moveable. He will probably have to work at the office. Not many people are there, but the exposure will be higher. With our luck, he'll either be exposed or contract the virus and we will lose the first vacation we've had in four years and ds' week at church camp. Feeling very Eyeoreish today. Last Saturday after 6pm, I was trying to put away laundry in my bedroom and wanted to watch something on our tv while doing so. The box did not work. I chatted a little bit with the Google Fiber online chat person and after trying a few useless things they always have you try, he said would 8am Sunday be good for you? So less than 24 hours. We have never had as good service with any provider as with Google Fiber. And we have had a lot of services. Some came close- Cox and Brighthouse, but Google Fiber beats them all. 3 Quote

I'll ask when he gets back. Certainly worth checking out. Thanks for the tip. But nothing will fix tonight. It's a holiday and telecom companies have only skeleton crews working. SKL Posted July 3, 2020 Posted July 3, 2020 A little too crazy over here today.... Yet another "emergency" created by someone who should know better, taking at least 4 productive hours off of my schedule. iphone acting all crazy, essentially defunct (it already had a cracked screen - fixing that was on my to-do list ... but now we're just starting a holiday weekend so is apple even gonna be open??) Electricity is out for who knows how long. I have wet clothes in the washer and dryer so I can't leave. (Was supposed to leave for the weekend 40 minutes ago.) We're supposed to be getting an Amazon shipment today for my kid's foot injury, but it hasn't come .... All this going on and we're supposed to be leaving for the weekend.... So anyhoo... Done: Kid2 to horse riding and back. Ran a mile, took a shower / hair wash. Washed 3 loads of laundry, dried 1.5, folded 1. Kitchen cleaned, garbage out so the house won't stink when we get back (assuming the electricity comes back on before the fridge food spoils). Put away food delivered today. Set ant poison out. Retrieved items dropped behind the washer. Made the kids water the recently planted shrubs. Packed up some of what we need to take on our trip. Fed the bird enough to last through Sunday. Informed people to contact my kid if they need me, since my phone is dead. Various other small things. To do: Finish packing. Hopefully finish the laundry if the electricity ever comes back. Should probably make the kids water the plants again. Drive to hotel. Work at hotel. Apparently I have to take over for someone who is suddenly not employed any more. This probably means I need a crash course in some job. Yay stress! Whatever else gets done. 3 1 Quote
Jean in Newcastle Posted July 3, 2020 Author Posted July 3, 2020 I hate impromptu naps when I can't keep my eyes open. went through all the mail. Sorted bills, shredded or tossed junk mail, etc. went to the bank drive-through before the holiday weekend corn on the cob is on the grill. Otherwise we're having leftovers from last night. We had one *very* unreliable company for almost 5 years. We switched last year and I feel like sending them a handwritten thank you every single time I pay my bill. Oh but they're so good for you! Pish! Somethings need to be tabled in favor of holiday naps. There! Did I make it justifiable by calling it a holiday nap?! Today was largely productive. Everything took longer than I thought. We're just getting ready to finish up supper and eat. I hear we're going to set up the outdoor screen for The Pacifier! Beautiful night here! 3 Quote

Yes - I use an App called The Bible in One Year, which I find really helpful. I'm not really recovered, if I'm honest. Thank you for asking. I have sarcoidosis, which has been pulmonary and musculoskeletal. Just recently, I started having some symptoms of neurosarcoidosis, which is worrying because the prognosis isn't good. Plus, with the current situation with Covid-19, it's harder than ever to get suitable treatment unless you are at death's door. The most troublesome thing right now is daily, frequent nosebleeds which happen randomly, and with no warning. I had 5 yesterday and ended up feeling very weak. I talked with my sarc support group, and a number of them suggested that I look into the link between (peri) menopause and sarc flare-ups - yay me! So yeah - I'm feeling rather overwhelmed at the moment. 2 Quote
