Rush
Hi all, My little one will be home all mornings this summer. I wish to find something cool online to entertain him. He is tech-savvy kid. Loves to design different small things on Tinkercad and 3d print them on his printer. He also wanted to take a local PC Technician course, but it was cancelled, like everything else. Is there anything worth online?

Is there anything worth online? What did he hope to learn from the cancelled PC Technician course. Personally, for a typical PC technician course, it’s the hands on troubleshooting labs that are really useful. Everything else can be learned by reading a ComTIA A+ test prep book and browsing hardware forums like Tom’s Hardware. Had he built his own PC desktop? If not, that’s where I would spend the refund from the cancelled course on. As in use the money for DIY computer parts.

I love your ideas😃 Do you know any particular young-kids-friendly text book? Although I have found ComTIA A+ for dummies and I think it's pretty good. Love the idea to buy DIY computer parts too. Do you know where I can get a manual how to build and what to buy? Me and my DH are extremely busy this summer. We still will help him, but if he can do some independent work it will be great. Arcadia
Kid friendly article https://www.pcbuildadvisor.com/how-to-build-a-computer-step-by-step-infographic/ Blog article of a family whose kids has built one. It list the components they picked https://teachkidsengineering.com/building-gaming-pc-beginners/ My local libraries aren’t open yet so can’t help you on book titles. My kids started with Raspberry PI though because it’s so modular (our initial outlay was $35 for the Raspberry PI) and kid friendly. My kids didn’t get this kit ($300) but they played with the kit at Makerfaire https://kano.me/us/store/products/kano-pc

My husband has also ordered him an electronics set together with Arduino and was going to order all required parts to assemble the computer. It looks like he will be super busy these holidays😃

4KookieKids
Interesting ideas here. Thank you! We have an Arduino set and a huge tray of spare computer parts from some laptops my son took apart when he was younger (they were dead and I didn't care). We don't know which parts of the computer are dead and which are still good, but I wonder if he could figure out a way to try to actually make something out of it....
