Good morning! My boy is 13 today!  He's still asleep and I am enjoying coffee and watching the birds on my feeder.

Another AHG Horsemanship day, so most of today at the barn for me.

Pack my lunch

Remember to take new uniforms

Wake ds and wish him happy birthday before I leave

Pick up ds and a friend from the friend's house this afternoon.

Pizza and chocolate cake and Marvel movies for boys

Shower, salad, and a novel for me.

Busy day and I don't want to have a busy day!

  • therapy appt
  • call cable company for dad and set up an appt
  • grocery story for a few items for dad
  • take dad's stuff over to his place (movers came yesterday) and help him set up
  • order a cane for dad to keep at my house because he keeps forgetting!  (may order 2, one to keep in the car and one at my house)
  • start making room in the attic for dad's extra boxes and have boys start moving them from the garage

IF time and energy:

  • set up a small desk area in my room with computer and scanner to start scanning slides
  • clean master bedroom up to look halfway decent and make room for small desk

Happy 13th, Scout's DS!!!

Happy 20th, Selkie's DS!!!

Happy Friday, everyone else 🙂

Update on our travels thus far --

...drove over to Roswell to see the "open" museum, only it was just the gift shop open, not the museum itself. I asked a desk clerk there if she would mind taking my phone through and photographing exhibits, which she happily did, so we still got to "see" stuff 🙂
...had lunch (curbside pick-up) from a good local joint recommended by the same desk clerk who took the photos for us
...headed over to Ruidoso to hike a trail, only discovered/realized it was way too long a hike to do in the time we had (and too hot), so stopped instead at a "cave" (gift shop in the side of a mountain) that was a hideout of Billy the Kid, visited a little other gift shop and bought a cute wooden bear
...came back, napped, went to see the family for dinner, more or less kind of sort of maintained social distancing but not as well as if it were strangers &/or other people who haven't also been thoroughly isolating/social distancing

So, today:

...meet up with the family to pick cherries
...go to Alamogordo to get an oil change and some groceries finally
...at some point, go with my grandma to see the area around where they lived/my dad grew up/etc
...meet up tonight for the actual memorial, at a lookout area; my aunt has the music on her phone....such a surreal, odd way to have a memorial
...assuming there is time in between, have some time to ourselves to do stuff DH wants to do (hikes, etc.)

This has been an odd trip, b/c when we were told of it, the attitude was very much implying that we should plan/expect to be on our own except for the actual memorial. Now that we are here, everyone is very "when are you coming over? when can we see you?" Are you coming to do xyz with us??" and we're having to revamp our plans and things to accomodate this shift in things. Which is nice, don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying seeing/being with the family, but shifting gears now that we're here is just odd.

Dh and I pulled up the deadly nightshade vine that is once again growing on our back fence. This thing keeps coming back and spreads like crazy. Gonna have to nuke it with weedkiller, I think.

Home from the barn. Stopped on the way home to drop off my mom's Amazon order at her place and to get a pizza for the boys at Aldi. Enjoying the A/C and doing some computer things.

Heading out in about 45 minutes to pick up the boys.
Dh just left to head to Knoxville. He'll pick up Dd and her friend from camp tomorrow.

Puttered in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom putting away a few things that needed to be put away

Dusted the inside of a cabinet in the dining room that has been bugging me forever.

Finally got those pesky background checks all done and records updated in the files!

Got some camp address information updated

Saw that I had a call from my camp "right hand woman" so gave her a call back.  It was nice to talk to her since we are good friends as well as work well together.  Our fundraiser is all set for the end of next month (provided that phases are tightened up again).

yes! We were disappointed it was closed, but the helpful attendant took photos of most of the main "this is the story of the crash that happened here" plaques and things. So we got the full story, and a few of the exhibits, even though it was closed.

I bought alien fabric at the quilt shop up the street from it 🙂

And I *really* wanted a shirt that had an alien in front of a Texas flag with the caption "homesick" but they only had it in size 3X which is way too large for me.

We went and picked cherries with the family; that was a lot of fun! I'm glad the boys chose for us to join everyone on that (we thought maybe they would not want to/would feel too old for such a thing). Took lots of pics of all the family members.

Went into Alamogordo for the oil change; that was nice, they had us just stay in the car while they did it.

Had lunch at the burger place my grandma says is "the best" in NM (Blake's Lotaburger). They were very good burgers.
*by "had lunch at" I mean we ordered online, DH masked up and went inside to the "pick up online order" counter, and then we ate our burgers in our car before going to the grocery store

Went to the grocery store and got drinks, snacks, and sandwich things to have at the cabin/on the drive home on Sunday.

Came back to the cabin, took naps, then went and did a longer hike to the train trestle which was very cool.

Heading to the memorial -- we're basically all meeting at a roadside lookout that has benches, my aunt will play the memorial music on her phone, at sunset we'll scatter his ashes, and then we go back to their cabin for pizza. (incidentally, this is our 3rd time eating pizza in 3 days.....)

I think it will be a nice time and a nice gathering after.

Did some AHG stuff

Texted with dh

Got a snack and tea and am about to pick up my book. Hard to read with the crashing and smashing of a Marvel movie in the background - boys are watching the first Avengers movie.

Hoping the boys are tired and go to bed relatively easily/early. Probably should have taken them to the pool this evening!

So cool!!

Ds20 and I share a love of anything involving paranormal activity, cryptids, and unexplained & mysterious phenomena, so that museum would be right up our alley. (Not that we actually believe in most of it, but it's just a fun topic 🙂)

The fabric sounds awesome.
