Jean in Newcastle Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 My PT exercises have left me a hunk of burning pain. I need something - gentle yoga with an emphasis on stretching for today (and other days like this). I absolutely cannot bend like a pretzel. Quote
Slache Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 DDP has been mentioned on here a lot and is very modifiable. I find it very doable but I think he's annoying. I have the DVDs and there is an app with a free trial I have not tried. 1 Quote

DDP Yoga actually has an entire series for people who are bedridden. And another series done sitting in a chair. And as someone who has done PT I can say that there is a lot of overlap with what DDP Yoga does (but with silly names) and what my PT recommended. The emphasis on the bed one is, I believe, range of motion mostly. Just getting things moving. The guy who started it/runs it was a professional wrestler, and had a lot of injuries and has been through PT himself. I think they have a free week trial? There is an app (more expensive) or the "on demand" one which is less than $10 a month, and you can stream on a computer/tablet/etc from the website, or access via a Roku channel if you have a Roku. 1 Quote
Ottakee Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 I too was going to me too DDPYoga. The app is about $90 year but gives you 300+ workouts at all levels from in bed to very advanced. 1 Quote
Laura Corin Posted June 17, 2020 Posted June 17, 2020 Adriene has a chair yoga sequence. I haven't used it but it's free and might fit. https://youtu.be/-Ts01MC2mIo 1 1 Quote
EmilyGF Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 DoYogaWithMe has some really really gentle sequences. All stretches are held long enough to feel effective. You can search for "beginner" classes and set the focus to stretching, relaxation, or to the area you need relief. You can also select how long of a video you want. 1 1 Quote

I've had luck googling things like "yoga for neck pain" or whatever ailment I have at the moment. You just have to remember to be gentle on yourself and not try to stretch as much as the 12-year-old leading the class. I've been doing Yoga with Adrienne lately. It's beginner, but not gentle. Maybe searching gentle yoga or geriatric yoga would give you a nice, relaxed experience? 1 Quote
mathnerd Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 You can do any sequence that labels itself "Restorative Yoga". These sequences of poses and moves are usually used to recoup from exercise, during recovery from injury/illness, before bedtime etc. They make use of props like cushions, blocks etc to keep the stretching very gentle. If you have Amazon Prime, they have many free prime videos on restorative yoga. 1 Quote
JustEm Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 I have heard many positive things about ddp yoga. 1 Quote
Junie Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 (((Jean))) Have you tried Tai Chi? That was what a gym recommended for me when they saw my limitations. 1 Quote

I did Tai Chi for a short time a few years ago and liked it. I actually liked it better than yoga because Tai Chi is fluid and yoga tends to hold poses which hurts more. 1 Quote

Junie Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Qi Gong exercises might also be helpful to you. 1 Quote

Wheres Toto Posted June 18, 2020 Posted June 18, 2020 Dd and I have been doing SarahBethYoga on Youtube. She has a lot of different sequences for parts of the body, or gentle relaxation. I don't find them too much and I have knee and wrist problems. I like this Qigong sequence. I like that there's not too much talking. I can actually play my own soothing music. : 2 Quote

melmichigan Posted June 19, 2020 Posted June 19, 2020 I love Yin Yoga for when I'm in pain. It's gentle, mostly done on the floor with lots of props, and often includes some meditation or calm soothing music. 1 Quote
