Scarlett Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 I mean help me, because I am sick with worry for my young friend. She is in the hospital tonight and being induced in the morning....she is 7-8 weeks early depend on who you talk to. How will this go? How bad is this for baby? Mom is 22....first baby. I am so scared....and we can’t go be with them because of Covid. Quote
catz Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 The vast majority of babies at that gestation do great but will spend some time in nicu. If it were a dire emergency they would take the baby immediately. She may end up with a c section with an induction that early. She is in the right place. I wouldn’t worry too much. 1 Quote
matrips Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 It sounds like they’ve had time to give steroids for the baby’s lungs since it wasn’t an emergency c-section, and she must have been stable. So I think thats good. And 32-33 weeks is pretty good for a preemie baby’s outcome. Some nicu time, but hopefully not much. if they don’t keep her long, she will need to stay on top of her symptoms and how she feels. Usually pre-e goes away with delivery though which is why they do that. But if in any way she feels off when she gets home, have her call her dr ASAP. Mine were 33w2d, and weighed 2, 3, and 4 pounds. I’m sure hers will be bigger. Mine were all home in 10 days, on monitors. 1 Quote
Scarlett Posted June 13, 2020 Author Posted June 13, 2020 Doc says baby is 5 pounds which sounds amazing to me. 1 Quote
LucyStoner Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) My younger son was born at 34ish weeks when I developed pre-e out of nowhere. He actually didn’t need any time in the NICU and came home at 2 days old. At 32-33 weeks, baby will need extra care but there’s so much they can do at the hospital that chances are *very good* that the mama and baby will be just fine. I hope it goes well. He was basically 1/2 the size of your older brother at 1 month but very healthy. 1 Quote
Melissa in Australia Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 (edited) my twins were born at just 33 weeks. I believe they were around 2 1/2 pounds or something round about that. They spend 6 weeks in intensive care - but they also have FASD which I am sure contributed to their time in intensive care Edited June 15, 2020 by Melissa in Australia Quote
Scarlett Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 Baby is still cooking. I think tomorrow is the day though. Mammas bp still under control. 3 Quote

Scarlett Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 2 minutes ago, Arctic Mama said: Because blood pressure is only one consideration, it is a symptom in a group of them. She could have other labs they’re concerned about, or baby could be growth restricted or having blood flow issues with the placenta that are making moving on it sooner. And coming out at 32 weeks with no complicating issues or risking additional problems and metabolic stress for them both to gain another two weeks of gestation might not be worth it. Controlling the blood pressure with medication doesn’t solve the underlying problem, it just buys time on one parameter of pre eclampsia. Other things could be problematic at the moment, even just something like a non-reassuring fetal strip. Ok, I see. Thank you. Quote
Scarlett Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 Here is what the daddy just told me She is on two different bp meds at high doses just to keep it in the 150/100 range which is good compared to what it was at. She has pre-eclampsia with the amount of proteins she is peeing out. And her bp is increasing as the due date gets closer putting the baby at greater risk as well as <mama> Quote
Scarlett Posted June 15, 2020 Author Posted June 15, 2020 And then he said this Yeah this is the only window right now that both <mama> and and the baby have the best chances, (scary as that sounds we are very hopeful and positive) your questions aren't taken as annoying but as loving concern. We eating well but <mama> can't eat right now so she is not lol. Quote
Scarlett Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Yesterday the docs said they were going to wait 1 1/2 weeks...this morning they have decided to do a C-section today. I guess they just can’t keep her BP under control. I am pretty sure she is 34 1/2 weeks today. And if they are correct about the baby being 5 lbs it seems like the chances are good baby will be ok. catz Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 If she is 34 1/2 weeks and they had time to do steroids, baby is likely to do great. Most moms do well once baby is out but she'll probably be monitored for a bit. Sending hugs out to them and hopefully it goes very smoothly. ❤️ Quote
SanDiegoMom Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 My twins made it to Thirty-five weeks and one was 5 pounds and the other 4 pounds 10 ounces. Only one spent time in the Nicu and that was only 8 hours. 1 Quote
sweet2ndchance Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I made it to 37 weeks with pre-E. Baby had no nicu time. I had a placental abruption in the second trimester in a different pregnancy that wasn't expected to make it past 30 weeks but we were able to buy 6 extra weeks, a week at a time, She also had no NICU time at 36 weeks. Every week was "we'll induce next week" but when things were stable they would put it off to the next week. With my pre-E baby it was different because there are so many pieces to the puzzle and it can be safer outside the womb than in sometimes when pre-E is involved. 1 Quote
Scarlett Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 She has arrived. 4 pounds. Both are doing well. 8 Quote
Guest Posted June 16, 2020 Posted June 16, 2020 I'm glad to hear it! FWIW, 32 weeks was what my perinatologist was aiming for in my pregnancy with DD. It's a point at which preemies generally do quite well, and where, if I did spike, she would be safer outside the womb. From 24-30 weeks was the time at which they really wanted to get just a week more...and another week more...and another week more...And this was 15 years ago, so I imagine 32 weeks is even more hopeful now. Scarlett Posted June 16, 2020 Author Posted June 16, 2020 Awwww, I can’t post a pic of someone else’s baby.....I can’t wait to see a pic though. Dad said she has a full head of hair and is cute as a button just like her mom. Quote
Scarlett Posted July 21, 2020 Author Posted July 21, 2020 She is home! Up to 5 pounds 11 oz......from 4 pounds at birth. She spent 4 weeks in NICU....she is doing great. 10 Quote
Scarlett Posted August 3, 2020 Author Posted August 3, 2020 (edited) Baby girl is doing so well. She has an alarm on her at night but it has not yet gone off. She is over 6 pounds now. We took something by for them yesterday and we were able to see her through the glass storm door. She is gorgeous. Her little sweet face, head full of black hair....just gorgeous. We have seen her via Zoom several times but it just seemed better through the glass door LOL Edited August 3, 2020 by Scarlett 8 Quote
