ScoutTN Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 For a friend who is turning 60. Former hs'er with grown kids. Lives somewhere hot. A reader. Single. Books are the obvious choice, but I'm trying to figure out something with more pizzazz. Quote

Kareni Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I've had fun giving personalized pillows recently. Is there a saying that has significance to her? (A quote from a book? A joke the two of you share?) Might she like a pillow with her children's names? Here's the site I use ~ HillaryMasonDesigns Regards, Kareni 1 1 Quote
Junie Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Something for her favorite reading spot? Set of pretty glasses for iced tea or iced coffee? Throw pillows/blankets (for when it's cooler). A nice boxed set of her favorite author? 2 Quote
J-rap Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) Would she enjoy a gift certificate to a local nice restaurant? Or something like a food subscription service? For example, we recently joined a local bakery where we can choose a loaf (or two or three!) of fresh-baked bread every week. We can either have it delivered or we can pick it up (and then it costs a little less). Or there's a mail food subscription bakery/deli called Zingermans that we've really enjoyed over the years for special occasions. They also have one-time special food gift ideas. https://www.zingermans.com Edited June 9, 2020 by J-rap 2 Quote
Tap Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Do you like to do themed baskets? Here are some books that may give you a starting point. https://www.amazon.com/Book-Lovers-Cookbook-Celebrated-Literature/dp/0345465466/ref https://www.amazon.com/Tequila-Mockingbird-Cocktails-Literary-Twist/dp/0762448652/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=literary+gifts&qid=1591695572&sr=8-2=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=literary+gifts&qid=1591695457&sr=8-12 https://www.amazon.com/contains-teabags-individually-literary-Breakfast/dp/B002RT2W1M/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=literary+gifts&qid=1591695572&sr=8-1 https://www.amazon.com/Little-Library-Cookbook-Recipes-Favorite/dp/1454930128/ref=sr_1_21?dchild=1&keywords=literary+gifts&qid=1591695572&sr=8-21 https://www.amazon.com/Are-You-There-God-Margarita/dp/0762464151/ref=sr_1_27?dchild=1&keywords=literary+gifts&qid=1591695572&sr=8-27 The cocktails books can be paired with a nice bottle or two of spirits. Pick one or two recipes and theme the gifts around those. The cookbooks with baking implements, Penzy's Spices, baking ingredients, garnishes, cute plates etc. (order the book first so you can theme the gift to a specific recipe or two) The tea bags can be paired with a nice travel tea cup, tea sugars, pretty cloth napkins, glass pitcher etc. There are scarves, socks, coasters, t-shirts, cups, book marks, note cards all with literary themes on Amazon. 2 Quote
Tap Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 I have never ordered from this site before, but it has some pretty things. When I can't think of a gift to buy, I like to look at sites like this to get some ideas. 1 1 Quote
mmasc Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 A 32-ounce yeti tumbler and a kindle. That’s what I’d want anyway 😁 3 Quote
happi duck Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Storiarts and Out of print both have fun book related stuff. 1 Quote

Beth S Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 Do you have a beloved photo of the two of you? Or do you have LOTS of photos of the friend? Go look on the Walgreens Photo website (for example) & do something creative with photos. 😉 Highly sentimental, but low cost. My Love Language is Photos, & years ago I made a photo album of all the pix I had of these 2 friends & their kids. It was something I loved to make as well as give. Also maybe a pendant (or other jewelry?) from Etsy that symbolized a memory you two share? Quote
katilac Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) A fun tote to put some books in? My friend got me one covered in text from Pride & Prejudice. Or you can go for one big and readable quote, or a sentiment like, Go away, I'm reading. I'm really loving the new ones with a bitmoji of the character and a short quote, like so: Obstinate, headstrong girl Edited June 9, 2020 by katilac 1 Quote
Carol in Cal. Posted June 9, 2020 Posted June 9, 2020 (edited) Do you like 31 Gifts? I am in a book club, and I ordered a tote customized for it from 31 Gifts. It's their Small Utility Tote, which is plenty big for a few books, a knitting project, my wristlet purse, and a cell phone. On the outside I had them embroider "Just One More Chapter!" around an embroidered picture of a book. I just love it, and I'll be no one else has one exactly like it. For a book lover, you might design something like that and then put in a book and a bottle of wine. That kind of amps up the book gift theme. In general I always like to give things that would be enjoyed but that someone would not buy for themselves. So, in that mode, I have in mind some rather expensive (to me) scarves that I just LOVE. These are pretty large and gorgeous: https://www.mme.ltd/collections/accessories/products/silk-watercolor-scarves Edited June 9, 2020 by Carol in Cal. 1 Quote
