ktgrok Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I don't want to spend oodles of money on this, and honestly, rarely do we all eat the same thing, so really more like 4 servings I guess, but is there one that makes a decent amount at once? My impression is they make like 8 wings or whatever. Maybe I'm wrong? I mostly want to roast veggies in it, lol, but I'm sure I'll do other things like chicken nuggets, regularly, and then who knows what else. Quote
ktgrok Posted May 29, 2020 Author Posted May 29, 2020 (edited) Thanks1 I'm looking at one by Instant Pot people, that does that rotisserie thing too. Looks like you can put the food, say nuggets, in the rotisserie basket so it tumbles and heats evenly, versus having just a tray...where you have to keep shaking it or only do one layer. Is that right? This is the one I saw https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07VM28XTR/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza Edited May 29, 2020 by Ktgrok Quote

Instant pot makes one called the Omni is bigger and holds a 9x13 dish. Kohl’s has it usually on sale. I am strongly considering upgrading to that one. I haven’t had any issues with putting nuggets on the tray. Everything has heated evenly. The basket is great for fries but they do fine on the tray. I haven’t had to shake them at all. I think (and could be wrong) that you can put more in, if you use the basket. Like, it says you can do up to 2 lbs of fries if you use the basket, not sure that many would fit on the trays. Quote

But you can’t use a tray and the basket together. I fit a bag of Trader Joe’s size fries in the basket and the same on the tray. My experience is too many in the basket makes the middle soggy. I originally bought it so my ASD kid would be able to cook something besides just using the microwave. If it were just him using it, it would be perfect. But all of us for one meal, it is just too small. Quote
AbcdeDooDah Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 This is different but we have the Big Boss and love it. My neighbors gave it to us because they never used it. Score! We don't use Teflon so this is perfect because my son had been asking for an air fryer. https://www.amazon.com/Big-Boss-Oil-less-Fryer-Silver/dp/B007P6SAZ4/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=big+boss&qid=1590718972&sr=8-1 Quote
Ausmumof3 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 Ours is standard. We’re a family of five. It will do enough chips as a side with salad and steak. For chicken wings I do about 1kg at a time - 2 kg for our family in two batches (Actually it’s more like 800g by the time I trim the tips off). Quote
Carrie12345 Posted May 29, 2020 Posted May 29, 2020 I just ordered the 7qt Vortex. Don’t have it yet, lol, but I do know Consumer Reports says none of the sizes of any brands are what they *actually* hold, so I just went with the biggest basket one at the best price from a known brand. For whatever it’s worth, we once managed to run a concession stand for an event with 3 mid-to-big basket air fryers. At our busiest, there was no wait longer than 4 or 5 minutes for standard frozen foods (fries, fingers, etc.). Based on the hoards we fed quickly, I’m not too worried about cranking out enough for my gang. Quote

This is the one I got. I never intended to actually cook a full main dish for all 5 of us in it. I mostly got it for side dishes, and my younger two kids don't really eat veggies anyway. Cooking nuggets in it for lunch was not bad. We normally put nuggets in the microwave, it only takes like 2 minutes. In the air fryer I want to say it took like 10 (plus 5 minutes preheat). However, they came out crispier than the microwave, and for sure didn't take as long as doing them in the oven, but tasted better. I did potatoes in it last night and those were GREAT! Fully cooked through, but nice and crispy crunchy on the outside. ooh, potatoes! Quote

Same here in the summer. We eat a ton of roasted veggies. I use both trays and still sometimes have to do two separate batches for enough for the 4 of us. Quote
