Wanna see pictures?

I’ve put a call into his doctor and am  waiting for a call back. Trying not to freak out.

UPDATE: The doctor does suspect Covid toe. 😳 He will go in tomorrow for testing, but she said because the tests are so unreliable, we should assume he is positive. So we will all quarantine for the next 14 days and hope for the best.

He needs that seen ASAP. Did he have any strange injury?

No injury. He hasn’t been running much, or doing much of anything but schoolwork.

I really really hope to hear back from the doctor soon.

It could be that but don't panic. Remember almost all kids have very mild illness with Covid.

Thanks. He 17, not really a kid, but a yeah. None of us have any other symptoms. He has barely been out of the house since March. 😞

The doctors office just called back. They want to keep people out of the office if possible so they are setting up a zoom call with him tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow!!! I’m not sure how to remain calm that long.

I’m so sorry! Tomorrow afternoon does seem like a long time when you’re worried. Do you have one of those covid hotlines or centers where they will let you get tested before then? I’d still want him to be seen, but that might get you one step ahead.

(I didn’t even know covid toe was a thing. I probably need to do more research on symptoms)

I don’t think so. I’m not sure testing would necessarily tell us much, although for sure we’ll get tested if the doctor suspects it actually is Covid toe. What a weird thing!

Looks like Covid toe... or something.  Try for telehealth visit

Is that equivalent to a zoom call? It’s 5:30 here, probably too late to do much more tonight. Ugh.

I don’t  know what a zoom call is. Our county public healthdeparent CV19 line  is staying open till around 7pm. Try yours.

In case it is, is it irresponsible of me to go the office tomorrow? I don’t want to be like one of those people  who get on a plane while waiting for test results, but I’m also really unsure if he/us are necessarily positive if it really is Covid toe? I can’t find anything definitive.

My boss will NOT understand and it’s a really bad day to miss if I don’t have to. But I’ll totally stay home if it’s the right thing. (the doctors office was noncommittal but I don’t know if I talked to a nurse or a phone person who wouldn’t know).

The pix are good. You may be able to start with them to a health department nurse who could then steer you onward.

Good idea. I’ll look into it. Thanks.

MEmama, sorry this is happening! And so strange since you've been ultra careful. Ugh! Just wanted to tell you that I've used LiveHealthOnline for televisits twice now, and it's been great each time. They're open 24/7, according to the website. You can use it if you have insurance or not - with my insurance, the visit was $15. https://livehealthonline.com/ You can upload pictures before the visit starts, so the doctor can think it over before he/she sees you.

Good luck!!! (-Kanin, formerly Mainer 🙂

ugh. The other thought I had was cellulitis, which is pretty urgent on it's own. Do his toes hurt? Hot or tender? Wearing too tight shoes? Spider bite?

Can you get a drive through covid test tonight?   The one possibly looks like a spider bite....but rashes, skin stuff is notoriously hard to figure out

The first pictures look like covid, but the last picture looks like there is an injury.  I haven't seen anything like that in any of the other pictures I have seen of covid.  Coupled with the fact that you guys have been scrupulously social distancing, I'm worried about cellulitis, too.

I would go through a testing site for Covid if you can. I don’t think it’s irresponsible to take him in though. You told them you suspect Covid and they made the appointment.

I would isolate him in the house as well as you can. He should stay in his room. You should clean more. Everyone should wash their hands in the house.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this. How scary.

He said if he presses on the area it feels like a bee sting, but the pain goes away instantly. He did say once he started thinking about it they might hurt, but maybe only because he’s thinking about it (like how you can make yourself itch by thinking about being itchy).

Mostly he’s just been barefoot in the house, so not a sweat rash or tight shoes or anything like that. They aren’t hot to the touch.

We don’t have anything like that here that I’m aware of. We’d have to go to the ER but they want people to see their doctor first.

A fungal infection sounds strangely reassuring. 😂

Yes.  I can see that too.  Obviously best to see a doctor for accurate diagnosis.

So this morning his toes look worse and the rash seems to be spreading to his other foot.

I'm so nervous. 😞

I would be nervous too!

In case it is a fungus or spreadable rash, can he keep a sock on the affected foot, and thoroughly wash anywhere else like other foot it might have touched?  Do you have any zinc oxide powder that could go on other foot if it doesn’t yet have open sores?

It could be Covid toe or not.

When my son had what was probably not Covid 19 (not sick enough to qualify for a test) but could have been, our health department said whole potentially exposed family should quarantine for 14 days.

I think u should stay home. For a bunch of reasons.

The problem with a zoom call is that they can’t check his O2 saturation level. Do you have a pulse oximeter?

We do! Thanks for the reminder!

That is my concern too, it’s not something that is well suited for telehealth, because there could be more going on than just a rash.

Yeah, it’s not optimal for sure. Although I am glad they are minimising how many patients actually go in to the office. I guess this is intended as an initial visit.

I am sorry for the diagnosis but glad that the doctor is on top of it.

I’m sorry! Can you get tested at the same time? Given your work situation, I would wonder if that’s how it arrived. Hopefully  the article I shared above is at least comforting that whatever this Covid toe thing is, it doesn’t seem to be associated with a bad outcome, and most kids with it test negative. How weird, though!

The article is helpful—thank you! 🙂

I do suspect it came from work. We are so, so isolated other than that.

I have to wonder if knowing he's been around you, and you are potentially postive (hopefully not!) will have him re-evaluate his thinking about masks!

I'd be tempted to email him and say, "My son has Covid19, I've been exposed and have potentially been contagious in the office, bet you are glad I wore that mask now, huh?" but that isn't nice I guess

The boss might be one of those who hope to get infected and be done with.

Yeah, he really doesn’t care. At all.

It’s extra short sighted of him because if I get sick, he is literally going to have to go out of business.

I brought this over from your other thread. I'm sorry about your son. Have you told your boss yet that you'll be quarantining and not coming to work? I hate that you have to deal with someone like him on top of being stressed out about your son and worrying if anyone else in the family has it. He sounds really selfish.

It isn’t a nice comment but it also isn’t nice that because he doesn’t take precautions, my son now has Covid and we are under quarantine. He really is the most likely source given the role that viral load seems to play. Quick weekly grocery runs just don’t carry the same risk (and it’s been weeks since I’ve crossed paths with anyone unmasked at the grocery).
Too bad he’ll never understand that he might have played a role. 😞

Does your son have any other symptoms?   How was his oxygen level?  I hope he recovers quickly with no complications and that no one else gets it.  Sending him lots of healing wishes and thinking of you guys.

He feels fine other than tender toes. His oxygen is 98 or 99. I’ll keep my eye on it for sure.
Thank you for the well wishes! 🙂. This is totally surreal.

Oh no.  I’m so sorry.

please take good care of yourself, too.  And maybe make sure you’re taking the supplements that Pen has mentioned.

Please keep us updated.  Will be thinking of you.

I suspect that your boss not wearing a mask and also bringing in others into your workplace has a role to play in your son (who has stayed home) getting covid. From what we know about this virus, this is a likely scenario. I hope that he rethinks his position about masks and endangering others now.

I wish your son a quick and complete recovery. I hope that he does not get too worried ... Good luck to you all.
