MercyA Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 (edited) I think it was wrong for the station not to award the first winner the full prize in the first place. ETA: LOL. Totally misunderstood your reason for posting. Edited May 24, 2020 by MercyA 1 Quote
Scarlett Posted May 24, 2020 Author Posted May 24, 2020 I am talking about the phrase ‘then the star waded in’. Shouldn’t it be ‘weighed in’? Quote

katilac Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 You can weigh in on a decision, as in give your opinion, usually on something you weren't involved in to begin with. "He did, in fact, pronounce my name correctly." You can wade into the situation. "Hey, radio station, do the right thing and give this man his prize." Weighing in is most often used when you are just giving your opinion on the subject. Wading in usually implies getting directly involved and taking action. 11 3 Quote
Tanaqui Posted May 24, 2020 Posted May 24, 2020 The two phrases don't mean the same thing, Scarlett. However, it is understandable that you're not as familiar with 'to wade in' - if you check the Ngram viewer, you'll see that it's much less common than "to weigh in". Of course, as always, it's important to remember that what is "correct" in any lect is determined by the common consensus of the speakers. 1 1 Quote
