Reefgazer Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 DS spends a ton of time online researching stocks, stock trading, investments, etc. We've given him some money to trade and invest, and he has done a good job of it. He spends hours researching on You Tube, in online seminars, and online discussions. I know absolutely nothing about this topic or about this field and he is thinking he might like to go to college for business. I would like to give him a 0.5 credit of an elective for this activity. What title would you give this class on a transcript? How do I do the course description if DS has used no conventional textbooks? As you can see, it has been difficult for me to break out of the school and textbook mindset. 1 Quote

regentrude Posted May 14, 2020 Posted May 14, 2020 You do the course description by describing what he has done. "This independent study course covers topics blah blah blah. Student researched independently, attended xyz seminar online, and participated in discussion boards. For the practical component of the course, student invested/opened portfolio... whatever it is he did." I have no clue about trading but you get the gist. Most of my kids' electives did not use textbooks or formal classes. Nobody will care. 2 1 Quote
