8filltheheart Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 We finish the school yr on Friday, and I am finally ready to start thinking about next year. I unpacked more of our moving boxes yesterday and found missing books. (still need to find geometry. I have found all of our math books except for geometry. These movers were the worst movers we have ever had. Things were just stuffed anywhere without rhyme or reason.) Anyway, as I unpacked some of the boxes, I had some ideas sparked. Finally. I have been so drained this school year that it is nice to have some enthusiasm flow through my brain! The girls have decided that if our pool remains closed and accessibility to all our normal fun activities remains limited that we will take 4 weeks off and then start our new yr and take weeks off in the fall when hopefully we can leave the house more with greater "social distancing" possible. 6 Quote
.... Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 All l have to say is - you just moved again?! Wow, you guys move a lot. We really need to move, but aren't in a good position to move yet. We school year-round, but even I'm feeling a little burned out right now. This spring was really hard on everyone. I don't know what we would do if we weren't doing school over the summer. I mean, what do normal people do all day without homeschooling?? 🤪 I'm afraid the kids would be nuts. You can't really go anywhere right now, either. So, museums and zoos are out of the question. *sigh* 1 Quote
Miss Tick Posted May 10, 2020 Posted May 10, 2020 Next week is our final week of the school year. Then we will take a week totally off. Then we will do 4 weeks of morning school (normal operating procedure here). Yesterday my two older's major plans for the summer both cancelled. Sad but not completely unexpected. I am going to talk to them about possibly doing a summer intensive to free up some schedule space during the school year. First we need to have some time for our emotional responses. 8Fills, this is another advantage of doing all the teaching yourself. You can do what you want with the year's schedule. 2 Quote

We bought it planning on retiring here and with kids moving out over the yrs. (Of course, college age dd moved back in and we are popping! 🙂 )You cant walk through our garage bc of stuff in boxes or things put there with the plans of having had a yard sale in March. 🤣 It is a good thing I dont own many clothes, bc our master closet is full of boxes of books I couldn't unpack and adult children's things that they want but have no place to put. I hadn't looked inside any boxes since I put them there. Guess what I'll be doing the next 4 weeks. But, hopefully, no more moving!!! 1 Quote

I know, it's a great moment when the juices are flowing again! And yes, rearranging sometimes helps you find stuff and get your pep back. You find new ways to use old things. Yeah, we're not taking time off but are instead making mini goals and really pushing hard to tackle them. Ds has no one else to play with, so we might as well stay busy until we can be doing something else. I'm working on the ukelele and teaching him to sew. We're making a push on learning about emotions and a language intervention push. Emotions and language were holding back his narrative language development. My theory is when we get back to "socializing" he's gonna have some awesome skills, hahaha. 1 Quote

And my closet looks like that on a daily basis, even without moving. 🤔 1 1 Quote
Zoo Keeper Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Well, we have 14 school days left-- and then we are done for summer. 🙂 I need my summer break, so that I can plan for next year. Thanks to stuck in the house time, I have gone through most all of my school boxes, sorted and labeled things, and made some hard decisions on what stays and what goes. This is one of the labors of Hercules. I don't have usable attic or cellar storage space, so all books not on the shelves must be stuffed in boxes in closets, under beds, etc. I'm like a squirrel hiding nuts everywhere. 😉 I've made mental plans for the 5 school aged kids I'll have next year, and I need to put plans to paper next. That's the hard, yet fun part. I've ordered consumables that got used up and needed to be replaced for the next student in line. I'm ready for a break. 3 Quote
