No power! Most of middle TN has been without electricity since around 5:30 last night. Well over 250K people. 72 mph winds in last night's storms.

No school for ds, no work for dh, no Latin class for dd.

We do have a gas grill, so first up will be breakfast. Thankfully, our coffeepots are a chemex and a french press.

I need to drive around the block a bit to charge my phone.

Trying not to think about the cost of replacing all the food in my fridge! The freezer is good for about 36-48 hrs, unopened.

Later: walk, read, figure out food.

Good morning!

Scout, hope your power is on soon. I should check on my dad and dd and see if they have it in east TN.

I'm so excited! Dd is coming home later this week. They have been working her three days in a row, and she ended up with a full week off between her work days in these two weeks. It's just in time for ds' birthday and Mother's Day!

Done: coffee, bible study groups, some co-op work, grading a quiz for tutoring session

To Do:

  • meals    breakfast and lunch done
  • tutoring 2 students
  • school with ds    still working
  • work on something from a master to-do list I've made for my life

Oh dear, Scout! I hope your power gets back on soon.

We had rain last night. The sun is out this morning and everything looks so dazzling. Not too much going on today. Dd1 has her last exam. The other kids have school. I have to get some cleaning done.

  • coffee/paper
  • weed/check garden
  • clean kitchen (in between dh's calls)
  • laundry
  • bathrooms
  • dust main rooms
  • Not sure what else today

Have a great day!

Good morning!

Scout, oh no! You've had more than your share of bad weather lately. Hope your power is back on soon & you can salvage some of the contents of your fridge!

Done:

  • horses, cats, dogs fed
  • tidied up Butterscotch's stall
  • started laundry
  • swept basement & steps

To do:

  • office work - straighten up my desk and get organized for the week, pay AmEx bill
  • dust & vacuum main floor
  • several loads of laundry
  • thrush treatment for Snorri
  • Butterscotch gets to go for a short walk today - woo hoo! I hope he won't be too sad about having to go back in his stall afterwards.
  • water plants
  • dinner: veggie skillet lasagna

Morning, all!

Scout, hope power comes back on soon!  Selkie, beautiful pic!

I've been out for awhile, need this board to get my daily focus.  My mom has been in and out of the hospital (non-Covid related) and they are not able to do the procedure she needs until hospital opens up again for general stuff.  I am now sorting/purging/dividing a house for a move in with us, doing full time care, working full time, and my other family stuff.  Dh helps when he can, but he also works.  Other siblings live out of state, so no help there.  In truth, I actually prefer it this way.  It's quiet, peaceful, and I can just plug along room by room without major distractions.  I just catalogue, take pics, confer with mom, relate info to siblings.

My list for today:

  • coffee
  • Post today's assignments
  • online appt. w/doctor
  • order packing supplies
  • Rx pick up, small grocery run
  • visit w/dd
  • vacuum, dust
  • online meeting in the afternoon
  • touch base with siblings
  • check on status of grad school apps
  • try to read a book, relax

Have a great day!

Power came back on about 2 hrs ago. I think all the food is ok. I had moved everything really perishable - mostly meat and dairy - to the freezer in the wee hrs. I have tidied the things from cooking breakfast on the grill and reminded Dh to get our back-up propane tank filled.

Done:
Tutoring prep
Meat CSA sign-up
Culled my inbox
AHG things
Ate lunch
Double checked on Ds' Scout things

Dinner - no clue! Maybe burgers, since we are in grilling mode lately.

Clarified some school things with Dd.

Next up:

snack, tidying, get ready for tutoring.

We had those high winds too.  Lots of power outages around our city also but our particular area was not affected by that.  One neighbor had a tree fall.

I need to do this too.  Off to downstairs to ask Dh.

Jean, I'm sorry your numbers aren't going like they should!

Tutoring was a bit crazy today because one student had to help his dad and now can't meet today because he's waiting on a call about a job.

Dh borrowed a truck and hauled some things off today, so I was able to go through some stuff in the garage and bonus room. Cleaning out both of those is our goal for May. I've really put off a lot of decisions in the last couple of years, so boxes of stuff have been accumulating.

Got three loads of laundry done - one more to go

Went through emails

Bleached & sorted mail & packages

Cleaned the kitchen

Restocked paper towels & napkins

Restocked beverages in fridge

Lots of horse chores

Called the vet to confirm we are on the schedule for tomorrow

Texted farrier

Doing a few kitchen things now - roasting asparagus, freezing gingerroot, getting dinner ingredients assembled

How did my house get to be such a mess? The kitchen was relatively tidy a couple of hours ago....

Next up: create some order out of the chaos and clutter here, then prep for dinner, check in with dd about school, tutoring prep for tomorrow.

Worked on pruning the huge hydrangea bush (for some reason this one bush is like four times the size of all the others).

Got a call back from one camp staff member.   It was so refreshing to talk to her.  We have no idea if we can have camp (we have to hit phase 3 in our state to have it) but we are planning as if we can have it.  It's a lot easier to pull the plug on something than to try to throw something together last minute.

Oh and Scout, you got me to drag out the grill and fire it up.  Kalbi shortribs cooking on grill.

As soon as I typed that, I saw a huge fire in the kitchen behind me, grabbed the fire extinguisher and put it out.  (Was also wok cooking).  House is filled with oily black smoke.

This is so true! We are doing the same thing for our AHG troop events this summer.

You have camp late in the summer, right? Better chance than June, for sure!

Yikes!! Glad you had that fire extinguisher!

I have gotten myself into trouble zipping between grill and kitchen before too! I officially began breaking Ds into grilling responsiblities tonight.

Dh cleaned the kitchen.

Ds is in a Scout Zoom meeting. Dd is reading. Dh is playing on his computer.
I did a bunch of AHG stuff, read on the boards for a while, checked on some Amazon orders. Punted tutoring prep til tomorrow.
Next up: read!

Listening to the thunder and the rain and very thankful to have power! Almost 90K people in my city (not counting surrounding counties) are still without it after last night's crazy wind and storm. Tonight seems to be much more moderate, no wind to speak of, though plenty of thunder and lightning.
