Trilliumlady Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 I saw some of the Herb Fairies books quite a few years ago and was intrigued but my kids were littles then. Now oldest is 12 and I’m thinking I’d like to get her into some herb knowledge/making tinctures/teas/salves, etc. I checked on their website and had forgotten how expensive the set is. Is there something else people have used that they’ve liked? I’m familiar with the making, etc, myself (relatively so) so am looking for something directed to the child to teach herself and we can herb search together. I’m thinking this might be a good Farmer’s Market idea for her in the next few years. Hit me with your best shots!! Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 I would look at something like: https://www.amazon.com/Kids-Herb-Book-Children-Ages/dp/1885003366 But, honestly, thinking of my 11 year old dd, I would probably just put her into the good stuff: https://www.amazon.com/Rosemary-Gladstars-Medicinal-Herbs-Beginners-ebook/dp/B007V5AXOA/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=herbal+medicine&qid=1588704692&s=books&sr=1-5 https://www.amazon.com/Herbal-Medicine-Makers-Handbook-Home-Manual-ebook/dp/B004G5ZU1Y/ref=pd_sim_351_17?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B004G5ZU1Y&pd_rd_r=7b3e8126-dc67-4fd1-b0c7-fcfc564f952f&pd_rd_w=Gu7rM&pd_rd_wg=9iOor&pf_rd_p=9fec2710-b93d-4b3e-b3ca-e55dc1c5909a&pf_rd_r=HM693EWXR72CK2B3Z8GT&psc=1&refRID=HM693EWXR72CK2B3Z8GT I own all of these books, fwiw. Rosemary Gladstar is pick up and go, but the Medicine Maker's book will need some mentoring..... Honestly, a lot of herbal, IMO, is just going and doing. You can reference which herbs and recipes, but the hands-on tincturing and salve making will spark the desire to learn more about the herbs and their functions. Quote
