easypeasy Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 DS currently takes concurrent elective classes at a 4-year private university. We're looking ahead to summer, where he will most likely take some classes at the local CC online. For the coming fall, we are considering continuing the concurrent elective classes at the 4-yr private AND adding in academic online classes at the state flagship university. So, for college applications, he would have to send in transcripts from: me 4-yr private university CC for summer classes state flagship For simplicity's sake, should he just continue the classes at the local CC instead of moving to the state flagship for fall? He's applying to some competitive schools and we were thinking the 4-yr concurrent classes might "show" better than the CC? He's not going to have a ton of AP classes but wants to knock out as many gen eds as possible before freshman year. The schools he is looking at will accept concurrent credits, but some of them say they will process a screening or something like that for the classes taken before granting credit. That's where we wondered if the CC would be under more scrutiny than the flagship... but maybe they are just doing a basic check to ensure the classes were taken at an actual, accredited college and that's it?? Guest Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 You will need to pay for transcripts to be sent from every school he has attended. As far as transfer credit, most schools in your region should have lists of classes they accept as equivalent. At least here, there are a lot of classes you can take at the CC that not only are considered equivalent but truly are the same class as at the state U. (Including, in many cases, taught by the same person)-but cost 1/3 as much at the CC if you're paying tuition. Quote
Melissa B Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 My dd took classes at the state flagship university and at the local CC. The credit screening that was involved for her had to do with whether or not the classes she took at the CC were AA classes or AS classes. Her university did not give her credit for two photography classes from the CC that were considered AS classes. They gave her credit for all of the others. She was accepted to all of the colleges to which she applied, but I would not consider them overly competitive colleges. Quote
Kassia Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 (edited) My dd (high school senior) attended a CC and a state university so she sent transcripts from both. The CC charged $5, the state university was free. We enrolled her in ps for junior year to receive funding for DE so her high school transcript will come from the ps. So, we send three transcripts for applications and then at the end of the school year. ETA - we had no problem with credits transferring from either institution, but the university she will be attending is known for being generous with transfer credit.
